Architectural Contracts & Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced architect with solid understanding of contracts to join Mithun. As a member of our integrated design team, you will have a dual role : a significant portion of your time will be dedicated to contracts management, and the rest will be spent managing projects and mentoring professional staff, as time allows.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to build relationships with Mithun teams and leadership across all three offices, continue building your contracts management skills, and work on a variety of projects.

This position reports to the Partner in Charge of Risk Management.

We currently collaborate in the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. On Mondays and Fridays staff have the option to work from home when project meetings and deadlines do not necessitate in person collaboration.

Role & Responsibilities

Contracts Management :

  • Draft, review and negotiate client contracts for different types of projects and clients.
  • Manage Mithun’s Contracts Crew, which consists of architects, planners, and project assistants; prioritize its work, and oversee the contracts review process.
  • Collaborate with project managers, Contracts Crew members, and Mithun’s leadership.
  • Seek advice from outside experts when needed.
  • Review NDAs, contract assignments, and similar documents.
  • Maintain and update Mithun’s contract templates.
  • Stay informed about risk trends, mentor PMs and others about risk factors.
  • Potentially, participate in the firm’s Quality Assurance team (depending on interest and capacity).

Project Management :

  • Organize, plan and lead the design efforts of an integrated design team through all phases of design, from programming and concept design through construction administration, using a range of project delivery methods.
  • Participate in project pursuits, client presentations and community engagement activities.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients and consultants as the primary liaison for design and contractual matters.
  • Actively manage project contracts, budgets and fees, schedules, staffing, communication, documentation and overall project delivery.
  • Explore and develop quality design ideas and innovative, thoughtful solutions that address project goals and are aligned with Mithun’s values and approach.
  • Facilitate the development of accurate architectural documentation for all phases of the design process.
  • Coordinate multiple consultants and engineered systems.
  • Coach and mentor interdisciplinary staff and guide project team members to achieve project milestones.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of post-graduate professional architectural experience,, including at least 5 years of drafting and negotiating architectural contracts.
  • A bachelor's or master’s degree in architecture.
  • Strong understanding of contracts and risk management issues;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience successfully leading large, complex projects through all phases of programming, design, documentation and construction administration.
  • Ability to build engaging client relationships, manage consultant teams, and take responsibility for fees, budget, staffing and billings.
  • Ability to define and drive project milestones, facilitate project meetings and effectively coach and mentor team members.

The expected range of compensation for this role is $110,000 -$120,00 per year.
