POSITION SUMMARY
Operation and maintenance of Digital Web Press.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arrive at workstation at or before start of shift
- Set-up and run all jobs that require digital printing
- Follow job assignments and review instructions, plan work and responsibilities for the job or project to ensure customer specification compliance
- Follow and execute schedule of printed material
- Perform file set-up when applicable e.g. dimension, color correction, or substrate
- Create specified print material, maintain the printing equipment and keep inventory appropriately stocked
- Operate and maintain the printing machines that they use, which may involve either hardware or software repair, depending upon the situation.
Operators are responsible for contacting service technicians for the machines they run
Digital presses require materials to be stocked to operate efficiently. Operators will need to order and stock ink, house substrates, and maintenance components as appropriate.
Use stock ordering schedules to keep up with work deadlines
- Adhere to strict quality control and standard operating procedures, including color or image quality correction as appropriate
- Operators are required to sign and include a quality checklist with each and every job produced
- Troubleshoot equipment problems, remedies or repair where applicable, and notify manager as needed.
- Maintain established schedules and prioritize work and proofs to meet deadline requirements and to maximize print efficiencies
- Must be able to respond quickly and calmly to rapidly changing client needs
- Work closely among shifts, and with other departments, to ensure smooth production flow
- Complete and maintain all required administrative documentation e.g. records, logs, time sheets etc.
- Light operation of small guillotine cutter, scoring, and folding equipment for proof creation and small jobs
- Contribute to a safe working environment and be able to work with others, must be able to follow direction and also be self-motivated
- Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations such as the use of required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) e.
g. gloves, hearing protection etc.
- Maintain departmental housekeeping standards
- All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3 years experience within a commercial digital, color critical print environment running digital Roll fed or Sheet Fed devices including devices from Screen, Canon, HP or Indigo.
- Strong proficiency and experience with Digital Front Ends and Graphics programs a plus.
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required
- Administrative proficiency, outstanding organizational skills and detail orientated imperative
- Physical dexterity :
- Ability to stand 8 or more hours daily
- Extensive lifting, bending, twisting and stretching
- Frequently lift and handle average-weight material and up to 50lbs
- Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- The ability to read, comprehend and interpret job specifications and work instructions
- Work in a fast paced environment with tight deadline requirements
- Overtime required as needed
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Some college or technical training preferred, or combination of education and experience
