48 College Credit hours or degree is required If you do NOT have 48 college credit hours, you may sign yourself up for the Para Pro Assessment Exam.
A passed exam will excuse you from the college credit requirement. The District will reimburse the cost of the PASSED Para Pro exam but a receipt must be submitted.

SALARY SCHEDULE : CLAS Range D, starting at $18.33 / hour
REPORTS TO : Building Principal
I.GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher with educational and non-educational activities.The paraprofessional assists in carrying out the program developed by the special education professional(s) and support personnel.
II.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A.Direct small groups of individual students in teacher-planned instructional activities.
B.Collect and record instructional and behavioral data as requested by the teacher.
C.Assist with physical needs of students under direction of teacher.
D.Assist the teacher in maintaining the classroom management program and handle routine discipline.
E.Score and check papers.
F.Operate audio-visual equipment.
G.Prepare instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
H.Prepare and copy materials.
I.Record information for reports as directed by the teacher.
J.Make charts, bulletin boards and other visual material.
K.Complete worksheets and reports as directed by the teacher.
L.Supervise students in place of the teacher during staffings or in emergency situations while the teacher is out of the classroom.
M.Consider all classroom behavior and achievements confidential.
N.Assist the teacher in supervision of field trips and school parties but not provide transportation.
O.Other duties as assigned.
III. TRAINING, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma, or equivalent.
- On-the-job training sessions are required by the State Department of Education for continued employment.
- Good interpersonal relationships.
- Must be physically able to restrain students, when appropriate, in compliance with accepted district disciplinary procedures.
Must be physically able to lift, or assist in lifting, non-ambulatory students.
- Must be able to proficiently operate classroom equipment including DVD player, computer, and copy machine.
- May be required to lift and move 20 to 30 pounds of classroom equipment.
- Must have 48 hours of college credit or a passed para pro assessment.
Language Skills : Ability to read and interpret documents including the analysis of district assessment data. Ability to effectively write detailed reports and correspondence.
Ability to communicate well, verbally and in writing, with parents, patrons, staff and students. Ability to speak in front of large and / or small groups.
