Manger of Medical Auditing and Coding Education
About the Job
As the Manger of Medical Auditing and Coding Education, you will perform routine and targeted auditing of optometric electronic health records to assist our doctors in continually improving their coding practices.
You will utilize audit results to deliver individualized education to optometrists and associates while also assisting in larger educational coding initiatives.
You will be an integral member of the Medical Services Team and report to the Senior Director of Professional Development.
You will serve as a subject matter expert to help guide the Medical Services Team while also collaborating with key stakeholders to optimize coding processes and mitigate compliance risks.
Duties & Responsibilities
Auditing
- Perform routine and targeted auditing to assess accuracy, completeness and compliance of optometric electronic health records
- Implement a process to effectively perform, address, analyze and store auditing results
- Develop performance metrics and benchmarks to measure coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance
Coding Education
- Utilize audit results to provide impactful, individualized education to doctors and associates
- Assist the Senior Director of Professional Development in creating organizational training to ensure ongoing development and an up-to-date understanding of coding best practices
- Review audit results and industry trends to identify key initiatives where larger-scale coding education is needed
Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication
- Serve as a subject matter expert on optometric coding, providing up-to-date guidance on coding regulations
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with other departments, including the Revenue Cycle Management Team and the Compliance Team, to share auditing results and ensure alignment of coding practices with other organizational goals and objective
- Other duties, as assigned
Requirements
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or ability to become certified within 10 months
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical coding / billing (preferred) or extensive experience working in a medical optometry practice setting
- Effective educator and communicator. Experience and comfort in providing both written and verbal education to doctors and practice associates
- Analytical mindset with strong organizational skills
- Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate effectively
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Eyefinity (electronic health records), Acuity Logic (point of sale system) and Codify (coding software).
Training on Eyefinity, Acuity Logic and Codify can be provided, as needed
- Experience in eye care is strongly preferred, but not required for candidates with an extensive background in auditing and coding education
- Basic understanding of optometric billing is preferred
