Job Overview :
My client is looking for a candidate that will be responsible for representing the company in proceedings before Public Utility Commissions (PUCs) and other regulatory bodies.
This role focuses on litigation, advocacy, and regulatory compliance related to rate cases, tariff structures, service changes, and other matters regulated by PUCs.
The attorney will work closely with internal stakeholders to develop legal strategies, file applications, and ensure that all regulatory submissions align with company objectives while adhering to applicable laws and regulations.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in utility regulation, with a deep understanding of PUC processes, administrative law, and regulatory litigation.
Key Responsibilities :
Litigation and Advocacy :
- Represent the company in regulatory proceedings, hearings, and rate cases before Public Utility Commissions (PUCs), state and federal regulatory bodies.
- Develop and present legal arguments, expert testimonies, and supporting documentation in contested cases, including rate adjustments, service modifications, and tariff approvals.
- Lead negotiations with regulatory agencies, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders to resolve disputes and reach settlements.
Regulatory Filings :
- Draft and submit filings, petitions, and other legal documents required for rate cases, tariff changes, service applications, and compliance with PUC rules and orders.
- Ensure that all filings are timely and complete, adhering to procedural requirements of PUCs and other regulatory authorities.
PUC Compliance and Strategy :
- Advise the company’s leadership on strategies related to PUC regulatory matters, including rate structures, service offerings, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop litigation strategies that align with company objectives and regulatory requirements, ensuring the company's interests are well-represented in all PUC matters.
Stakeholder Engagement :
- Collaborate with internal departments, including finance, operations, and regulatory affairs, to gather the necessary data and evidence for PUC proceedings.
- Maintain effective relationships with regulators, industry stakeholders, and advocacy groups to stay informed on regulatory trends and changes.
Monitoring and Reporting :
- Monitor relevant regulatory developments, PUC rule changes, and court decisions that could impact the company’s operations or regulatory strategy.
- Report on the status of ongoing litigation and regulatory matters to the General Counsel and senior leadership, providing regular updates and strategic insights.
Education :
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in the state of State .
Experience :
- Minimum of 6 years of legal experience, with at least 3 years of litigation experience before Public Utility Commissions (PUCs) or similar regulatory bodies.
- Extensive knowledge of administrative law, utility regulation, and the legal issues surrounding rate cases, service modifications, and tariff structures.
- Experience working with utilities (e.g., electricity, natural gas, water) in a regulatory capacity is highly preferred.
