Job Summary
Performs non-invasive vascular procedures and general diagnostic ultrasound examinations within the department and on the nursing units.
Job Specific Duties
- Demonstrates and applies technical proficiency in producing diagnostic scans with the ability to recognize visible anatomical structures.
- Assists in minor surgical procedures, such as biopsies, cyst aspirations, etc.Â
- Assists in the training of new employees.Â
- Ensures adequate clinical history is available to correlate with the ultrasound examination. Verifies information with the requisition and patient chart per hospital policy.Â
- Maintains records of examinations. Schedules cases to coordinate with other examinations.
- Performs all ultrasound examinations (; renal, brain, soft tissue etc.) including vascular studies. Completes required documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
- Adjusts equipment, determines proper technique, and arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain correct patient position.
- Communicates effectively with hospital employees, physicians, and patients.
- Problem solves issues with equipment and reports any equipment problems / malfunctions to clinical engineering or supervisor on an as needed basis.Â
- Follows hospital patient-identification policy prior to performing examination. Verifies two patient identifiers to ensure right patient and correct procedure.Â
- Observes safety practices at all times and adheres to all clean sweep guidelines and infection control standards per policy.Â
- Performs QA, completes exam, enters and transmits patient information into PACS in a timely manner.Â
- Performs portable examinations in operating room, emergency department / and in-patient rooms.Â
- Accurately performs ultrasound procedure protocols as required.Â
- Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of equipment, monitoring inventory, and stocking scan room.
- Contacts Physician with results for all STAT cases within 1 hour.Â
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- Must have completed an accredited course in ultrasound technology
- American Heart Association BLS maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Amer Regis Diag Med Sonography maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
- RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- 1-3 years Vascular and pediatric ultrasound experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Florida general Radiology Technologist License preferred.
- Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to problem solve to adapt standard clinical procedures to the individual client's need.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
- Knowledge of ultrasound procedure protocols.
