The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Utilities Department as a Lead Water Operator. At Corona's Utilities Department, we strive to deliver the best customer service to all of our residents and businesses, with safety and reliability as our top priorities.

The Utilities Department is comprised of five divisions including Water, Wastewater, Reclaimed Water, Electric and Solid Waste.

There are many opportunities to collaborate with other state and local agencies as well as other departments and employees on a regular basis while working on day-to-day tasks and a variety of projects.

We provide a 4 / 10 work schedule (Mon-Thu) for most positions and rotating schedules for operations staff. We are continuously looking for ways to help our employees create and maintain a healthy work / life balance.

Education / Training / Experience :

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by college level coursework in water science or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience working in water distribution, potable water production, water treatment, storage, transmission, or a related field.

Licenses and Certifications :

  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a valid Grade D3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Grade T3 Water Treatment Operator Certificate.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid Grade D4 Water Distribution Operator Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid Grade T4 Water Treatment Operator Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.

Skills / Abilities

  • Operate and maintain all aspects of the City's water distribution system, water treatment system, and related facilities and equipment.
  • Operate treatment and blending facilities, monitor trends, and pull water samples.
  • Operate a wide variety of pumping, treatment, control, and transmission equipment, including digital control (SCADA) equipment.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the work of assigned staff.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.

The Organization

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members.

Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments / organizational units : Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities.

Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is $399.1 million with a General Fund operating budget of $209.6 million.
