Position : Civil Litigation Paralegal
Schedule : Full Time (Monday Friday, 8 : 30 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m.)
Job Summary :
The Civil Litigation Paralegal will assist attorneys with all aspects of civil casework, including family law, divorce, personal injury, civil litigation, appeals, employment, and Federal lawsuit defense.
This role will support attorneys in both litigation and pre-litigation stages.
The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of State Court proceedings in Tennessee and Georgia, U.S. District Courts, Courts of Appeals, and the Sixth Circuit.
One to three years of relevant experience in civil litigation is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities :
Case Management :
- Manage case deadlines (internal, external, and court-ordered) by updating the case management system.
- Organize documents and maintain hard copy and electronic databases (MyCase).
- Manage case calendar events, including hearings, depositions, and conference calls.
- Coordinate depositions between parties, counsel, and court reporters.
- Assist with trial preparation, including organizing discovery, preparing exhibits, bates labeling, and maintaining client files.
- Prepare and file pleadings with courts, ensuring compliance with court requirements.
- Handle electronic filings, including ECF, TrueFiling, and Court of Appeals submissions.
- Maintain and organize client documents, manage production logistics, and ensure timely document retrieval.
- Draft and file affidavits of service, subpoenas, and ensure compliance with civil procedure rules.
- Analyze and review document productions during discovery phases to assist attorneys.
Writing :
- Assist attorneys with court documents, pleadings, notices, discovery requests, responses, and formal correspondence.
- Communicate with parties and counsel about case activity and deadlines as instructed.
- Demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills when interacting with clients, court officials, and vendors.
Client Management :
- Serve as a liaison between clients and attorneys, providing updates, scheduling meetings, and obtaining necessary information.
- Triage client requests and ensure timely communication of case updates.
- Follow up with clients via phone and email to ensure timely collection of documents and information.
- Provide case status updates to clients as needed.
Billing :
- Track and enter all billable activities accurately and contemporaneously in the case management system.
- Process client payments and assist with firm billing and expenses.
Required Skills / Abilities :
- Bachelor’s Degree (Paralegal certification preferred).
- Proficiency in litigation processes.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and Adobe.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- One to three years of relevant experience in civil litigation preferred.
