The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research.

ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under five Technology Divisions : Communications Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Trust Technologies, Advanced Electronic Components and Systems, IoT Sensing and AI Technologies, and Innovative Mind.

It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions.

To date, ASTRI has transferred almost 1400 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 1000 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.

To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s) :

Job Responsibilities :

• Define research focus, technology direction and roadmap, and establish innovative position for the Intelligent IoT System (IIOTS) team, in the application domains of AIoT for health tech / gerontech, smart education (EdTech), public utilities IoT sensing system etc.
• Grooming, cultivating and leading R&D managing staff in their operation management, project presentation, resource planning, and R&D activities.
• Explore project commercialization opportunities, such as those related to AIoT enabling smart education (EdTech), smart hospital & elderly care, public utilities IoT sensing system etc.
• Develop HK local, GBA & China eco system through cross-university, cross-R&D center collaboration.
• Assist TD leader to build up & grow new R&D team in the related emerging technologies area.

Job Requirements :

• PhD in Physics, EE or CS with 15+ years of R&D / working experiences, or Master with 20+ years of experiences.
• Track record in commercializing public utilities IoT sensing system, health tech / gerontech, video analytics, smart education (EdTech) technologies and applications.
• Experiences in leading a team or teams of 20+ developers, with ability to work across teams and motivating collaborators inside and outside his / her own team.
• Ability to define and formulate technology roadmap and lead the team to achieve long-term development through well-executed platform projects with significant industry contribution and project income.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency in written and spoken English. Cantonese and Putonghua are a plus.

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF.

The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
