Job Overview :
The Youth Program Coordinator (YPC) will support the development, oversight, and facilitation, under the supervision of the Youth Program Supervisor (YPS), of youth programming.
The primary role of the YPC will be to provide age-appropriate activities; academic support, sports, and other youth-related activities as may be required.
The YPC will work closely with the YP Team Lead, YP interns, volunteers, and other MEIRS team members / departments as necessary.
The YPC will coordinate and organize various activities, ensuring ORR and non-ORR Eligible clients are served by the offered services and programs, including but not limited to the RYM program.
The YPC will be responsible for administrative documentation and tracking, such as attendance, intake and case plans, in accordance with reporting requirements and / or MEIRS requirements.
Under the supervision of the YPS, the YPC will support coordinating with youth clients and families and Juvenile Community Corrections Officers (JCCOs), support youth and families at court hearings, and other advocacy and services as requested by youth and their families.
The YPC will support outreach, organization of relevant educational workshops / forums / events for youth, caregivers, and community members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
Facilitates the development of youth programming and organizes program activities (e.g. games, art, music, homework, etc.
for the purpose of addressing the individual and / or group needs of youth enrolled in YP.
- Interacts with youth in various activities (e.g. snack time, group or individual play, academic support, etc.) for the purpose of providing for a safe and positive learning and enriching environment.
- Supports and works with youth program participants to support post-secondary education goals, including college and work applications, among other aspirations-oriented activities and program aspects.
- Evaluates situations (e.g. disciplinary problems, hazardous conditions, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and / or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Maintains various records and files (e.g. enrollment, daily sign-in / out log, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, meeting operational requirements, and ensuring accurate documentation as required.
- Performs record-keeping and clerical functions (e.g. attendance, statistical and operational reports, library materials, scheduling, copying, etc.
for the purpose of supporting the facilitators and supervisor in providing necessary records / materials.
- Participates and represents MEIRS in various meetings (MEIRS & outside MEIRS ) for the purpose of sharing information and / or improving one's skill / knowledge per the direction of the YPS.
- Sets up and maintains after school center (e.g. opens / closes center, facilitates and organizes games, art projects, etc.
for the purpose of adequate preparation ahead of facilitating and overseeing activities and programs.
- Supports and maintains consistent and clear communication with youth and their families that are enrolled in MEIRS youth programs for the purpose of maintaining open lines of communication and trust with parents / caregivers.
- Attend all agency training as directed by supervisor / HR
- Coordinate and support the development of youth recreation programs, including but not limited to, soccer, basketball.
- Work collaboratively with designated organizational partners for the purpose of addressing the needs of youth in activities, programs, and additional enrichment activities and services.
- Support the creation of an annual budget for youth programs, including but not limited to, recreation, after school, field trips, and other programming activities.
- Be a role model, supportive to youth and their families
- Work with other employees, interns and volunteers to develop, organize, and implement youth programs.
- Attend youth and family hearings in juvenile courts as needed per direction of YPS for the purpose of providing support.
- Attend youth and family meetings in the local schools as needed per the direction of YPS for the purpose of providing support and advocacy.
- Assess situations and make referrals to additional resources and providers as needed and requested by youth and their families, including but not limited to, legal advocacy, restorative justice, and others.
- Supports coordination of youth program participant and caregiver check in meetings as necessary (school support, legal aid support, restorative consultations, among others).
- Provide transportation as needed using personal vehicle and / or company van per the requirements of the job.
- Maintain professional practices and demeanor while on the job, inside and outside of MEIRS office locations.
- Maintain regular communication with YPS and other staff, interns, and volunteers while working.
- Keep department inventories safe and maintain them.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned, some weekend hours may be required.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills) :
- Targeted job-related education that meets the organization's prerequisite requirements.
- Minimum requirement, high school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
- Valid First Aid / CPR certification required
- Direct experience supervising school aged children required.
- Direct experience in the development of youth programming, classroom behavioral management, conflict resolution
- Reliable transportation and valid State of Maine driver’s license and auto insurance is necessary - vehicle must have a minimum of $100,000 / $300,000 liability coverage to transport youth.
- Adaptability, flexibility, teamwork - high level of communication skills required
- Basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent, and / or ratios and ability to write following prescribed formats, and / or present information to others;
and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
- Ability to meet and work tactfully with students, staff and parents and to utilize some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions.
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, to communicate with diverse groups, to lead, guide, and / or coordinate others
- Ability to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and / or events
- Maintain confidentiality
- Working under limited supervision following standardized practices and / or methods
- Working Environment : The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands : significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling;
some balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and / or crawling. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing.
The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a clean atmosphere.
