Position Overview

The Director of Grant Accounting will manage the day-to-day fiscal administration of the college’s sponsored project post-award activities.

This includes accounting, audits, and financial compliance for projects funded by Federal, State, Foundation, non-profit, and corporate entities, in line with Federal, State, and College policies.

Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), agency sponsors, principal investigators, and administrative staff to resolve grant administration issues.

Analyze, approve, and process requisitions, reimbursements, and personnel appointments to ensure expenses comply with sponsor requirements.

Prepare sponsor reports and analyze expenditure data. Implement control procedures and monitor financial terms in proposals for compliance with College policies.

Primary Purpose

The Director of Grant Accounting will manage the day-to-day fiscal administration of the college’s sponsored project post-award activities.

Essential Duties

  • Analyze and approve requisitions, reimbursements, and personnel actions for charges to sponsored project accounts to ensure compliance with sponsor and College requirements.
  • Collaborate with OSP, agency sponsors, principal investigators, and administrative staff to resolve grant administration issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance and principles of allowability, allocability, and reasonableness.
  • Prepare and submit various reports to funding agencies and for internal use.
  • Manage award close-outs, including pre-closing notices, reviewing projects for open items, and final billing.
  • Interpret award instructions from grant and contract documents, including agency requirements for project management, restrictions, billing, and reporting.
  • Maintain knowledge of College financial systems and related interfaces.
  • Supervise grant accounting staff.
  • Provide fiscal support to research faculty and staff regarding sponsored projects.
  • Assist with cash management for sponsored projects, including invoicing, preparing support for federal and non-federal drawdowns, and managing accounts receivable.
  • Oversee all grant-related post-award functions, including award set-ups, labor distribution, cost transfers, cost share, sub-recipient monitoring, managing residual balances, and closeouts.
  • Assist with sponsored project audits.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Ability to manage research grants and contracts, financial management practices and contracting and subcontracting practices.
  • Working knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance and familiarity with federal, state, college and sponsor-level requirements for sponsored projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of applications in a PC / Windows environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and able to work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Commitment to teamwork and customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

Education : Bachelor’s degree.

Experience : A minimum of three years of progressive post-award grant experience, including supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred education / experience / qualification(s) in any of the following :

  • Master’s degree in Accounting / Business or related field.
  • Experience working with post award research administration software and / or Peoplesoft financials.
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable federal, state and other sponsor regulations related to sponsored projects, including OMB Uniform Guidance.
  • Experience in a research administration role in an academic setting or comparably complex organization.
  • Bilingual
