The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Staffing Specialist is accountable for the day-to-day placement of temporary associates at the university and ensuring a successful relationship with both the hiring managers and the vendor partners.

Under the supervision of the Director of Staffing, Columbia Employment Information Center (CEIC), the Staffing Specialist is self-directed, focusing on results and achieving goals.

This person directly impacts the client's ability to meet their deliverables by providing high-quality, highly specialized, and timely temporary staffing solutions.

The Staffing Specialist must build strong relationships with hiring managers and vendor partners.

The primary function is coordinating various Temporary Staffing Office and Columbia Employment Information Center programs and deliverables.

Responsibilities

Temporary Staffing Office - Customer Relationship Management :

  • Partner with schools and departments to streamline the temporary associate placement process, including training on technology tools.
  • Provide consistent and high-quality customer service.
  • Immediate response and on-time fulfillment of all staffing requests.
  • Build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Maintain accurate files and records of all customer interactions, provide proactive results.

Temporary Staffing Office - Vendor Management :

  • Coordinate with Vendors on sourcing, recruitment, submission, and interview of temporary associate candidates.
  • Work with Vendor Partners to develop a clear and concise recruitment plan and to execute against that plan.
  • Work with Vendor Partners to ensure candidates from the local community are placed at the University.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to Vendor Partners on temporary associates' performance and work with hiring managers in addressing / resolving temporary associates' issues.
  • Provide training on technology tools.

Columbia Employment Information Center :

Work with the Director, Community Employment Programs and Services to increase local placements (temporary, temp to hire, and direct hire) to :

  • Recruit / Source candidates for open positions focusing on local talent.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with community-based organizations and local business associations to create a local talent pool for open Columbia positions.
  • Screen applications and qualify candidates by conducting pre-screen interviews via phone and / or in-person.
  • Schedule and conduct interviews.
  • Refer potential candidates for open positions to the Director - Community Employment Programs and Services, Director - Temporary Staffing Office, and Columbia hiring managers for placement.
  • Meet with candidates on a one-on-one basis to provide job coaching and counseling assistance, guide candidates to apply for appropriate open positions, and present qualified candidates to managers in consideration for interview consideration.
  • Assist with coordinating applicant intake, referrals, and advisement on the CEIC process and applicable next steps.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with applicants, clients, peers, and partners and liaise with other departments and execute the same with excellent customer service.
  • Assist Director in administering and coordinating the Center activities and serve as a backup. Coordinate, track and make appropriate referrals to other supportive services such as GED, ESL, training.
  • Work closely with Temporary Staffing Office to assist with temporary placements of local candidates.

Temporary Staffing Office and Columbia Employment Information Center - Project Work :

Collaborate as needed on internal projects and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and / or the equivalent with a minimum of 3-5 years related experience required.

Other Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have the following skills and knowledge : proven success in recruiting, hiring, and placement of temporary associates;
  • excellent customer service skills; strong relationship management skills; excellent communication (verbal and written) skills;

negotiation and influence skills; and be goal-oriented and able to work in a team environment.

  • Additionally, he / she will have the ability to utilize technology as a tool for tracking client and temporary associate information;
  • knowledge of lawful employment practices; knowledge of lawful interviewing and selection practices; ability to manage tasks simultaneously while managing attention to detail;

ability to adjust priorities according to changing business needs and be able to work flexible / extended hours when necessary, including 24 / 7 coverage.
