Avant Brokerage, a division of SPG Insurance Solutions is a rapidly growing, profitable, and successful property and casualty insurance wholesaler and managing general agency with underwriting authority based in the Kansas City, MO area.

We have been in business for more than 25 years and sell exclusively to retail agencies across the country with a focus on commercial transportation and specialty lines risks.

About the Position :

This position will help build, execute, and lead a divisional underwriting strategy for new and existing transportation type insurance programs.

The Senior Underwriting job description includes developing proper selection and account pricing based on established company standards.

It also requires managing a nationwide footprint in accordance with company objectives and policies. Job duties primarily include risk evaluation, selection, accepting, rejecting, pricing, and servicing policies.

Key Responsibilities :

• Analyze, select, and profitably price risks of varying complexity.
• Determine terms and conditions of coverage on new and renewal business.
• Provide underwriting proposal and competitive rate recommendations in a timely manner.
• Achieve overall growth and profit objectives.
• Examine loss notices received by claims and recommend appropriate action.
• Assist internal sales force with marketing efforts (agency visits, seminars, etc).
• Develop and foster effective relationships with internal resources and external clients to ensure delivery of all related services to clients.
• Identify opportunities for underwriting improvement and recommend solutions.
• Maintain the highest level of customer service.
• Maintain awareness of Transportation Industry and insurance trends.
• Build strong, positive agent relationships to promote profitability and growth of new business and the retention of existing business.

Qualifications :

• 5 to 10 years of underwriting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Top candidates will possess experience in underwriting Transportation and Commercial Auto Risk classes including Physical Damage, Cargo, and Non-Trucking Liability coverages.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or related major preferred.
• CPCU or other insurance industry certifications preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Proactive, independent work ethic with strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work in dynamic environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions
• Self-motivated and goal oriented
• Strong organization skills, with a high level of detail orientation

Work Location :

Although remote hires will be considered, a Kansas City residence is preferred.

Salary Transparency :

The expected salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000, and it will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope and level.

Travel :

Travel for this position will include occasional business meetings with internal teammates and external agents and customers.
