and Teacher Education and Learning Sciences, with approximately 130 tenure-track and professional-track faculty, 110 support and professional staff, and about 160 graduate and teaching assistants.

The College of Education is also home to the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research and the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation.

  • The Office of Assessment and Professional Education (OAPE) provides information, interpretation, and explanation about educator licensing requirements;
  • supports the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and all assessment / accreditation activities; assists prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, K-12 educators, counselors and others with teacher preparation, licensure and continuing education needs;

processes licensure requests; provides courses in the professional education track; and provides professional development experiences.

Within the OAPE unit, the North Carolina Teachers of Excellence for All Children (NC TEACH) and Pathway to Practice NC programs are designed to recruit, train, support, and retain professionals as they work towards credentials.

The North Carolina New Teacher Support Program (NC NTSP) supports student achievement by increasing teacher retention and supporting growth in teacher effectiveness.

Essential Job Duties This position provides oversight and management of current Office of Professional Education outreach initiatives as well as development of new initiatives that are designed to engage community partners in non-credit bearing coursework, professional development, and induction programs.

Our current initiatives for which this person will be responsible include two non-credit bearing support modules (edTPA Support Course and Community Ally Training Modules) and the Regional Directorship of the NC New Teacher Support Program.

NC New Teacher Support Program (50%)

  • Oversee the consistent, high-quality, effective delivery of NC New Teacher Support Program services.
  • Manage regional program resources, provide oversight, and ensure that all expenditures are used in compliance with federal, state, and grant guidelines.
  • Work in collaboration to develop and communicate NC New Teacher Support Program vision, goals, policies, procedures, data, curriculum, materials, and program information with Instructional Coaches, teachers, school and district partners, IHE partners, community members, and others within our designated region.
  • Recruit schools and districts within the region to the NC New Teacher Support Program and maintain accurate and appropriate communication with school and district personnel to support the appropriate expansion of the program.
  • Coordinate with program leadership to hire and manage Instructional Coaches to deliver the NC New Teacher Support Program to all regional participants.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of North Carolina state curricular standards, induction and mentor standards, pedagogy, and adult learning theory.
  • Identify practical, research-based resources (electronic, paper-based, human) to assist Instructional Coaches and teachers in meeting their goals.
  • Lead crucial conversations with Instructional Coaches and teachers about maintaining high expectations for students
  • Observe coaching practice, assess strengths / weaknesses, and use data to tailor support to Instructional Coaches in the region.
  • Implement structures to facilitate networking among Instructional Coaches and new teachers in the region.
  • Design and / or facilitate professional development sessions.
  • Provide a variety of solutions to help Instructional Coaches improve their practice and therefore student achievement.
  • Serve as a thought partner to Instructional Coaches and new teachers on addressing school-based challenges.
  • Provide support to the evaluation of the NC New Teacher Support Program, including the maintenance of accurate regional data

Outreach Portfolio (50%)

  • Manage current non-credit-bearing outreach coursework portfolio (e.g. edTPA Outreach Support Course; Literacy Tutoring Modules, and others as developed).
  • Design innovative non-credit-bearing outreach coursework by leading groups of faculty.
  • Provide coaching for participants engaged in non-credit-bearing courses.
  • Develop and subsequently manage programming designed to engage and support teachers in the field, with a primary focus on alumni of our licensure programs
  • Collaborate with NC State Extension Office and College of Education Student Services to support Education Extension activities.
  • Manage regional program resources, provide oversight, and ensure that all expenditures are used in compliance with federal, state, and grant guidelines.
  • Design and / or facilitate professional development sessions.
  • Implement Wolf2Wolf, a virtual alumni network for graduates of the NC State College of Education to support their professional learning beyond the degree.

Note : This position requires an on campus presence to effectively perform the essential duties of the position. As such, employees must reside within a commutable distance and must report to campus regularly to perform certain work-related tasks as a condition of employment.

Master’s degree in Adult Education; Curriculum Supervision; Curriculum and Instruction; Higher Education Administration; or similar

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to effectively convey information and ideas clearly to individuals or groups through a variety of media
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Google Suite and email
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, operate at all times with a high level of discretion, and maintain confidentiality across a wide range of issues and items
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as effective interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high-quality working relations with internal and external customers, support staff, and administrators

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coaching educators or other professionals
  • Knowledge of best practices in online learning environments and experience designing online learning coursework
  • Extensive knowledge of the needs of beginning teachers and the complexities of public education in NC
  • Experience managing teams and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously
  • The applicant must be self-directed and possess a strong work ethic with skills in leadership, communication, public relations, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Three-to-five years of achievement and proven leadership in an administrative leadership position
  • Successful experiences in the field of education, and large-scale program management and implementation
  • Prior experience with grant management
  • Demonstrated organizational, supervisory, data management, and budgetary skills.
  • Understanding of research, assessment, and evaluation strategies for educational programs.
  • Strong written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina’s educational systems, including a full understanding of K-12 education, and the role of NC’s institutions of higher education in teacher preparation.

Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in a public school / and or higher education setting, and to those with experience and direct knowledge of effective models of teacher preparation from pre- service through induction.
