JOB SUMMARY

This position is located in the Office of the Director, Child, Youth, and Family Services (CYFS), Department of Behavioral Health (DBH).

The primary responsibility of this position is to serve as a child and adolescent psychiatrist working as part of a clinical team and functioning as a qualified and approving practitioner.

The Medical Officer (Psychiatry) provides direct and indirect child psychiatric services to children / youth with serious emotional disturbances.

The incumbent also assists the Assessment Center in conducting complete assessments and / or psychiatric evaluations including developing reports of recommendations for child, youth, adult, and families that answer the specific questions or concerns raised in the context of court order or agency requests.

Provides medically necessary treatment and rehabilitative services to children / youth and their families or surrogate caregivers with emphasis on medication / somatic and diagnostic / assessment services.

May provide other core services including counseling / psychotherapy and community support or specialty services, as appropriate, including crisis services and treatment of individuals with co-occurring disorders and their families.

The incumbent will host weekly Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) Review Committee. Provides recommendations around placement of youth into PRTF and / or other services as needed.

Completes psychiatric assessments utilizing the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V-TR) or its current equivalent as its diagnostic foundation.

Performs assessments for children / youth who are committed to outpatient care by court order. May be required to write petitions for involuntary court commitments.

Salary :

6- $336,137. - $382,446.

6b - $348,128. - $394,438.

6c - $355,507. - $401,819.

This position is in a collective bargaining unit represented by Doctor’s Council, and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through an automatic payroll deduction.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL EXAMINATION, CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK AND DRUG TEST.

LICENSURE

Must possess a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the District of Columbia.

Must be credentialed and privileged for clinical practice by the Behavioral Health Services Division BHSD .

EDUCATION

Must possess a degree of Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatric Medicine with specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Must have completed an Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approved psychiatry resident and child psychiatry fellowship or training program and be Board eligible or certified for certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risks of accidents and it is required to follow basic safety precautions.

QUALIFCATIONS REQUIREMENT

Must demonstrate a knowledge of a wide range of psychiatric and child psychiatric theories, practices, and techniques used in diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of children / youth with serious emotional disturbance, including knowledge of current psychopharmacological treatments.

Must be knowledgeable about resiliency models of treatment and familiar with Mental Health Rehabilitation Service MHRS standards.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants unless the person declines the preference points.

Applicants claiming Residency Preference will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years.

Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
