The position of Dental Hygiene Clinical Instructional Assistant (DH-CIA) in the Dental Hygiene Program is an adjunct faculty role that provides instruction to students in Stark State College's Dental Hygiene Clinic while students provide treatment to patients.
The DH-CIA must be able to verbally communicate and demonstrate all aspects of dental hygiene duties following the Standards of Clinical Dental Hygiene Practice;
work as an effective team member; be familiar with clinical grading system and be able to explain it to students .
Duties include :
- Evaluating student performance using established clinic evaluation rubrics.
- Providing constructive feedback and supporting student success.
- Assisting in course revision / program development activities.
- Administering local anesthesia and other duties related to patient treatment as needed.
- Assisting with medical emergency responses in the clinic.
- Recognizing the need for patient medical consultations and following patient care protocols.
- Providing instruction in other dental hygiene program courses as needed.
- Attending training, calibration, and methodology workshops (approximately 3-6 hours / semester).
- Managing Stark State faculty email account.
- Supporting supply inventory and equipment maintenance protocols.
Requires the following :
- A bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited higher education institution;
- A current license to practice dental hygiene in the State of Ohio including certification to administer local anesthesia;
- A minimum of five years of current or recent experience practicing as a dental hygienist;
- Current certification in basic life support through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute;
- Membership in applicable professional association.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Be able to effectively communicate with diverse populations.
- Possess critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
- Have working knowledge of computers to including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet navigation.
- Be available during the day, afternoon, and / or evening.
- Hours and days will vary depending on the semester. Teaching assignments are based off enrollment in the course / program.
