About the Position
This roles helps to ensure both a clean and safe environment for our beach guests. Responsibilities can include cleaning, minor repairs, invasive species removal, coastal restoration, event support and general upkeep of the beach / park.
This brings about light to heavy physical labor (as needed) : supplementing the maintenance and upkeep of the assigned area;
utilizing a variety of basic skills while using small tools and minor equipment. A summary of the responsibilities can be found below...
Perform minor repairs and cleaning / upkeep of assigned beaches, water access areas, and / or boat and kayak launches.
Ensure daily / routine maintenance, inspections, and tasks; assisting to diagnose concerns and escalating major repairs.
Manage trash removal, litter picking, deep cleaning the restrooms, performing landscaping, and other duties.
Assist with scheduled programs, events and summer camps as assigned (this can include the setup, take down and operations of said events).
Utilize hand and power tools to perform restoration work.
Be willing to obtain and maintain herbicide applicators license to assist with spraying of exotic invasive species.
Communicate safety and protection guidelines to visitors, reporting violations and assisting with customer inquiries.
Conduct park patrols and secure park facilities, reporting instances of park violations to Supervisors.
About the Schedule
Work Hours :
Full-Time, 40 hours / week.
Sunday - Saturday, 6 : 00 a.m. - 2 : 30 p.m.
Overtime is available.
About You
Minimum Qualifications :
High School Diploma or its equivalent.
One (1) year of experience as a semi-skilled laborer in the care and maintenance of parks, landscape, athletic fields, or other similar grounds.
Valid Driver's License at time of hire.
Physical Demands : Must occasionally lift and / or move more than 50 pounds.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening : This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.

General knowledge and techniques for maintenance of parks : operation and maintenance skills with machines, power equipment, hand tools and small equipment (such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, leaf blower chainsaws, and pressure washers).
Basic carpentry and plumbing experience.
Understanding of rule enforcement practices.
Natural Areas herbicide applicators license. ( We can help with this! )
Knowledge of Florida exotic invasive species. ( We can help with this! )
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods often in hot and humid conditions.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English and to work independently.

Starting Pay Range : $17.33 / hr (Step 1) - $18.94 / hr (Step 4), depending on experience.
