Transmission Technician

Summary :

The Transmission Technician is responsible for diagnosing and performing vehicle repairs and maintenance work as assigned and in accordance with factory and dealership specifications and time standards.

Essential Duties include the following; however, other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Position is 100% on-site.

Perform work specified on maintenance and repair orders with efficiency and in accordance with dealership standards.

Disassemble, diagnose and repair vehicle transmission.

Cleaning and inspection of all parts

Provide labor and time estimates for additional automotive repairs.

Explain mechanical diagnoses and required repairs in a non-technical manner to service advisors and customers.

Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions in order to stay abreast with rapidly changing technology.

Inspect and test new vehicles and recording findings so that necessary repairs can be made.

Minimum Hourly Pay Rate of $16.00, which can increase based on productivity without any upper limit.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual should possess :

1) At least 5 years of GM dealership engine & transmission technician experience or (2) at least 5 years of equivalent engine & transmission technician experience.

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance; federal, state, and local regulations such as those governing the disposal of hazardous waste, and mathematical principles, (adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying and percentages) and application.

Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles; determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.

Read, analyze and interpret common technical journals, and legal documents.

Ability to multi-task projects, establish priorities, work independently and organize effectively.

Must be detail orientated and be able to work under pressure.

Must have a valid driver’s license and have and maintain an acceptable, safe driving record.

Individual will be required to :

Stand for long periods at a time.

Frequently bend, stretch, twist, or reach with their body, arms, and / or legs; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects and use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.

Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs.
