About the Department and / or College
The primary responsibility of the Central Heating and Cooling Plants (CHACP I & II) is to provide manufactured utilities to the Texas Tech University Main Campus, the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, University Medical Center, The Museum of Texas Tech University, the Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute (FBRI), The Innovation Hub at Research Park, and the Institute of Genomics for Crop Abiotic Stress Tolerance (IGCAST) Phytotron in the form of steam, chilled water, compressed air, and reverse osmosis water.
Major / Essential Functions
Provides professional, highly technical expertise in the application of engineering principles, techniques and methods.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; three years professional work experience related to the specific assigned area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of HVAC, electrical systems, building control principles.
- Knowledge of energy management concepts, energy audits, and data analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data analysis tools, and energy modeling software is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Dynamic and technically adept, eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Basic understanding of building automation (Metasys, eSight, Struxureware).
- Familiarity with common BAS protocols such as BACnet & Modbus.
- Experience with energy analysis tools (e.g., Energy Star Portfolio Manager, eQuest, etc.).
- Hands-on experience in BAS integration, programming, or control logic development.
- Knowledge of energy codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, LEED).

Occasional Duties
- Assist in the design, installation, configuration, integration and audits of building automation systems (HVAC, lighting, energy metering, etc.).
- Oversees building energy audits of buildings and other energy related systems.
- Conduct preliminary energy conservation calculations, including return-on-investment (ROI) and cost-benefit analyses for energy efficiency measures.
- Provide input on energy conservation measures (ECMs) and assist with project implementation and commissioning efforts
- Stay updated on the latest BAS technologies, energy efficiency standards, and best practices in building automation and energy management.
