The Client Relations Associate works directly with PAWS' applicants and clients, navigating them through the process of becoming a PAWS certified Client-Dog Team.
This position is a Full-Time Salary Exempt position starting at a minimum annual salary of $40,000. Base hours are 8 : 00am-4 : 30pm with some evenings and weekends required to meet the expectations of this position.
A minimum of 2 years experience in related field required. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required. Experience in working with people who have a disability preferred.

Dog Trainer
Location Wayland, MI Salary Range $18-$21 / Hour - Commensurate with experience. Responsibilities
- Be knowledgeable & confident to respond to questions from all constituents - especially the public when training dogs while on Public Access - regarding PAWS services & our Accrediting organizational Assistance Dog International
- Collaborate and support co-workers to develop a strong dynamic team and organization - including team building and other departmental support
- Complete all required paperwork and documentation by deadlines established by your supervisor including generating training data for each assigned dog
- Complete all stages of Assistance Dog training - selection to placement - with minimal supervision and in the appropriate time frame for specific Client / Dog Team
- Conduct hands on Field Representative work with all types of Assistance Dogs in each of the primary steps : Placements, Certifications, and Re-Certifications, as Client / Dog teams become available
- Convey PAWS client-dog process to new trainers learning the trade, including Apprentices, Interns, Volunteers, Field Representatives, and other Staff as needed
- Essential Function : Possess the proven ability to handle a string of dogs commensurate with experience level (average of 7 dogs)
- Essential Function : Provide for the physical and mental care and welfare of the dogs under their care
- Essential Function : Represent PAWS in a positive & professional image through participation, interaction & communication with staff, volunteers, donors & other constituents through speaking engagements, client interactions, campus tours, and demos
- Have the ability to complete advanced training for the placement of Hearing Dogs, Services Dogs for Children with Autism, Service Dogs, and Seizure Response Dogs with minimal supervision and within the appropriate time frames
- High level experience in classical and operant dog training experience that align with Assistance Dogs International standards
- Non-essential Function : Complete demonstrations and / or presentations, provide materials, photographs, videos, and content for PAWS as needed
- Non-essential Function : Support the Training Continuum through the Foster Puppy classes, activities, and related events, the Prison Program Instructors, and other PAWS related events as necessary
- Other duties as assigned - including special projects as assigned or necessary for the Training Department, other organizational areas, and its constituents
- Supervision Received : Supervision by Training Department Lead Trainer regarding specific direction on established work procedures and processes.
Receives periodic checks for performance.
Skills
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing to provide guidance and direction for Field Reps and Clients to successfully become a certified team
- Experience in Behavior Modification entails modifying a dog's behavior for the purposes of increasing or decreasing wanted and unwanted behaviors to create and sequence trained tasks
- High level experience in classical and operant training experience with dogs
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent; Canine / Animal Training Tradesmanship; or High-level, Hands-on training experience
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in teaching people and dogs and / or animals (or related equivalent) with a strong skill level and emphasis on the use of Behavior Modification
- Must be skilled in canine communication and body language for temperament analysis, problem-solving, matching, and custom train dogs to successfully meet the needs of clients with disabilities
- Preferred : Assistance Dogs International Trainer Certification for Service Dogs and Hearing Dogs; Guide Dog International Trainer Certification
- Strong understanding and knowledge of canine learning theories and how to effectively apply them

- Willing to learn or possess a thorough knowledge & understanding of various types of disabilities & understanding the needs of people with disabilities
- Willing to learn or possess the ability to be able to effectively train an Assistance Dog to meet the needs of people with disabilities
