What Your Job Will Be Like :
We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer to become the Requirements Lead for the W76-1 / W76-2 Joint Test Assembly (JTA) weapon system team.
Our team executes design, development, and qualification of the new instrumented JTA flight test body for the W76-1 / W76-2 weapon systems.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop, implement, and manage strategies to lead the JTA3 project to successful product qualification and delivery.
This will require partnering with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to understand the lifecycle phases of the project, coordinate technical design requirements, test plans, and support design gate reviews all in support of the successful development and delivery of the JTA3 project.
The successful candidate will become intimately familiar with the detailed function of W76-1 / -2 nuclear weapon components, subsystems, and systems, and gain a breadth of knowledge across all phases of the product realization lifecycle from concept exploration, design, development, qualification, production, sustainment, to retirement.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to exercise investigative freedom in engaging the broad Nuclear Weapons community.
On any given day, you may be called on to :
- Lead the system integration for requirements and execution through the life cycle of the system engineering product development process.
- Work with other design and production agencies to establish interfaces, integration plans, and to ensure designs can be requirements.
- Provide critical contributions throughout the entire product realization lifecycle, including requirements engineering and traceability, validation and verification (V&V), risk analysis, and crucial technical documentation.
- Partner with Sandia internal system and component team, as well as external partners at Los Alamos National Labs, KCNSC, Pantex, NNSA, and the Navy to mature project requirements.
- Communicate and team effectively across multiple roles and technology areas, to include staff, team leads, and several levels of management.
- Exercises critical thinking to identify, assess, and mitigate risks through the application of strong engineering principles and robust communication.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Some travel may be required for this position.
Salary Range : $90,900 - $176,900

Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require :
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a relevant STEM field.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
- Ability to participate as requested in random polygraph testing.
Qualifications We Desire :
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in above-stated field.
- Self-motivated, positive individual comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to integrate into and work effectively across multiple technical teams and with management.
- Experience using engineering principles to conduct trade studies to identify system solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations to customers and various levels of management.
- Familiarity with engineering requirement tools, such as DOORS.
- Familiarity with SNL drawing and authorization system, product development and qualification, testing and evaluation.
- Knowledge and understanding of nuclear weapon systems.
- Active DOE Q clearance (or DOD Top Secret clearance).
- Experience working with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), DOD customers, DOD contractors, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), and Pantex.
