Marathon TS is seeking a COBOL Developer to support a federal client in Washington, DC.
Responsibilities
- Assemble computer systems, servers, and networking devices according to technical specifications and diagrams.
- Install CPUs, RAM, storage devices, motherboards, power supplies, and other components into cases or enclosures.
- Connect and route cables, including power, data, and network cables, ensuring proper organization and management
- Configure BIOS settings, RAID arrays, and other system settings as required.
- Perform initial software installation, including operating systems and necessary drivers.
- Conduct thorough testing of assembled systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and meet performance standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues detected during assembly or testing, such as hardware incompatibilities or software errors.
- Inspect all components and assemblies for defects, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards.
- Document assembly processes, configurations, and testing results for future reference and quality assurance.
- Maintain accurate records of all assembled and configured equipment, including serial numbers and component specifications.
- Assist in managing inventory levels of hardware components and peripherals, ensuring that necessary parts are available for assembly.
- Keep work areas organized and maintain an efficient system for storing and retrieving components.
- Report any shortages or issues with parts to the supervisor or purchasing department.
- Work closely with IT support teams to ensure assembled systems are ready for deployment and meet the end-users' needs.
- Provide technical support for issues related to assembled hardware, including assisting with setup and installation on-site when needed.
- Collaborate with engineers and other IT staff to improve assembly processes and suggest enhancements to system designs.
Education and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in IT or related field
- A minimum of years of experience.
Required Skills
In-depth knowledge of IBM z / OS assembly language : This includes understanding assembly instructions, addressing modes, data manipulation techniques, and job control processing.
Will provide support with legacy code business rules extraction and code conversion.
- Familiarity with IBM mainframe architecture : Grasp of concepts like storage hierarchy (registers, memory, I / O), system calls (SVCs), and interrupt handling mechanisms.
- Knowledge of CA Endevor Software Change Manager (SCM) tool including version control, release management, security and access control, and integration of Endevor with other development tools.
- Knowledge of BMC Control-M specifically with respect to automating job scheduling, managing workflows, and monitoring job execution.
- Understanding of mainframe tools : Experience with debuggers, assemblers, linkers, and utilities specific to the IBM z / OS mainframe environment.
- In-depth knowledge of legacy mainframe data formats : This includes experience with DB, QSAM, VSAM data formats.
- Understanding of target Java code : should have an understanding of object-oriented programming principles, Java syntax, libraries, frameworks, and best practices and have the ability to translate assembly logic to modern constructs such as mapping assembly instructions to equivalent Java code using loops, conditional statements, functions, and object-oriented design patterns.
- Experience with IRS Core Record Layout (CRL), QSAM Data Formats highly desirable.
- Experience with IRS Individual Master File (IMF) or Business Master File (BMF) highly desirable.
