Overview

Truancy & Behavioral Coordinator (Stronger Connections Grant funded position) at Education Service Center, Region 2.

Primary purpose : Provide assistance to campus personnel in interpreting and enforcing compulsory attendance laws and resolving truancy, excessive absences, and tardiness problems. Serve as district liaison for truancy to law enforcement agencies and court personnel. Organize and implement a district-wide multi-tiered system of support to ensure students' academic and behavioral needs are identified and supported so that students can reach their full potential. Work directly with students, teaching staff, administration, and outside agencies to provide necessary support and is sponsored through the Stronger Connections Grant.

Qualifications

  • Education / Certification : Bachelor\'s degree in Education, Social Work, Special Education, related field. Master\'s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field as preferred.
  • Special Knowledge / Skills : Ability to communicate with students, teachers, parents, administration and community members.
  • Experience : Experience and training with effective academic and behavioral interventions, including school-wide, classroom, and individual student behavior intervention plans, school improvement and cultural diversity. Experience providing and coordinating staff development activities and curriculum design. Experience working with district level and school based leadership teams to support school improvement decision-making. Experience implementing intensive student support as a behavior specialist, teacher, principal or related role in schools. At least 3 years teaching experience.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Provide knowledge of state compulsory attendance laws, procedures, and local and state policies.
  • Provide knowledge of juvenile justice systems and ability to present truancy cases to the court.
  • Interpret laws, policies, and procedures related to truancy issues.
  • Provide strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel districtwide to conduct home visits and visit sites where truant students have been reported to the District.
  • Coordinate district efforts to provide high quality instruction and interventions for academic and behavior (RTI and PBIS) that are matched to student needs.
  • Monitors student\'s progress frequently to make decisions about changes instruction or goals and apply student response data to make appropriate decisions.
  • Ensure fidelity of building level MTSS meetings (RTI and PBIS) that include continual application of a structured problem solving process that involves staff, families, and support services.
  • Ensures implementation of evidence-based behavioral practices as determined by MTSS team.
  • Prepares, compiles academic and behavioral data (RTI and PBIS) and shares with appropriate personnel.
  • Establish written policies, practices, and implementation plans, and provides necessary training of MTSS policies and practice to staff.
  • Establish and maintain a system of communication between students, staff and families to share areas of success, address implementation barriers and ensure on-going fidelity of MTSS implementation across the district.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
