The Principal or Sr Mechanical Engineer - HVAC / AirCon / Refrigeration performs high and detailed level : engineering analysis, design or re-design, validation and troubleshooting of complex components for industrial airport and military equipment.

Provide integration and execution support for machines, equipment and component design. Provide technical mentorship in high level analysis and design of new and modified components and subsystems in accordance with engineering standards, military standards and project scope.

YOUR IMPACT :

Responsible for definition, initiation and completion of a project or part of a project of moderate complexity on time.

May be responsible for overall project schedule and budget.

May be responsible for managing multiple priorities and / or programs.

Performs more complex engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry engineering standards and processes.

Responsible for preparation and delivery of plans, designs, computation methods, and / or reporting.

Collaborate as needed with other engineering or business support disciplines internally as well as suppliers externally, including fabricators and installers.

May have exposure to the external customers and / or industry organizations.

Provide guidance or mentorship to entry level engineers working on common projects.

Research, create, and update standard engineering methodology and procedures - best practices, etc.

Participate in the budgeting process to include recommending capital improvements and preparing justification data as required, potentially estimating program costs and / or equipment build costs.

Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.

Communicate project objectives to team members.

Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures.

Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.

Create and maintain project documentation for analysis, research, and historical records.

Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements. Skills to properly document findings with spelled out impact or options to address.

Provide complex technical assistance for production support, test technicians and field service teams.

Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or written communication.

Provide mentorship to team members to ensure the appropriate engineering analysis is performed and documented.

Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and five (5) or more years of related experience. This minimum amount of experience can be flexed up or down for the right candidate.
  • A passion for finding fact-based engineering solutions and an eye for emerging technical variations

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Strong mechanical knowledge of automotive, heavy-vehicle equipment, industrial refrigeration systems or military programs and related systems
  • Experience with a high-level CAD system. Siemens NX preferred
  • FMEA, FEA and CFD expertise a big plus
  • Familiarity with control systems integration (PLC, HMIs, remote I / O, Modbus, BACnet, etc.) a big plusPiping design expertise with pre-bend piping
  • Heat transfer and airflow design criteria understanding
  • Sheet metal fabrication, weldments and frame design layout development a big plus.
