The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a full-time Assistant Research Scientist to join a neuroscience laboratory.
This position involves working with rodent models to study the mechanisms underlying mental illness and identify potential treatment targets.
The lab focuses on the neural circuits of normal brain functions, particularly the role of endogenous opioid signaling in stress and reward processing.
The selected candidate will be expected to also have excellent organizational skills, keep detailed records and aid others in the laboratory with data.
Duties and Responsibilities :
The research focuses on neurobehavioral systems, using environmental and molecular manipulations to probe neural cellular and circuit function, ultimately linking these to behavior.
Duties and Responsibilities include :
- Handling research rodents
- Conducting stereotaxic surgery and post-surgical recovery monitoring
- Behavioral testing
- Histology
- Electrophysiology and biosensor recordings
- Data analysis (MatLab and Python)
The applicant should be able to work on a flexible schedule, including some weekend and evenings.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree and one year of professional research experience in an appropriate field,
- or 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in the following :
- Procedures and data analysis utilizing genetically encoded sensors and in vivo physiology (MatLab and Python)
- Local field potential analysis and its relationship to single-unit activity.
Preferred Qualifications :
- PhD or equivalent in a neuroscience-related field
- Knowledge and experience of the NYS-OMH system.
- Technical experience and knowledge of learning management systems and working in training and technical assistance centers.
