The Senior Research Scientist position is part of the Pearson Psychometric and Research Services group within the US School Assessment group.

Pearson research scientists provide psychometric support to state and national customers, develop innovative techniques, and conduct cutting-edge research studies.

Education and Work Experience

• Doctoral degree in educational measurement or a related field from a nationally recognized institution.
• At least three years of relevant job experience, preferably with psychometric issues faced in operational assessment programs or significant grant-funded research projects.

Familiarity with Psychometric Techniques

Ability to apply, design, and train others in psychometric techniques, including classical test theory, item response theory, test equating, scaling and linking, and standard setting.

Familiarity with Software Packages and Programming Languages

Experience with programming languages and software packages commonly used in psychometric work (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS, WINSTEPS, IRTPro, PARSCALE, C++, MPLUS).

Scaling and Equating

• Skill with scaling and equating designs to create technical documentation.
• Conducts, guides, and designs analyses for item calibration, linking, and equating.

Grants, Research, and External Funding

• Designs research studies and analysis specifications.
• Coordinates study resources and conducts formal reports for presentation.

Test Construction / Field Testing

Organizes and coordinates all aspects of test form design and field test item preparation.

Proposal Development

Coordinates technical designs for proposals and writes associated text.

Knowledge of Educational Trends

Identifies implications of national and state educational trends for assessment programs.

Communication Skills

• Demonstrates effective communication skills necessary for a leadership role with clients.
• Provides guidance for presentations made by other research scientists.

Project and Talent Management

Demonstrates project management skills necessary to lead multiple assessment programs or research projects.

Working Location and Travel

Willingness to travel as necessary.

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by factors including skill set, experience, and location. The pay range for this position is between $135,000 - $160,000.
