Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking a diligent and dedicated Food Service Worker to support the Wilmington VA Medical Center located in Wilmington, DE.

The Food Service Worker will be responsible for various tasks related to food preparation, service, and sanitation to ensure that Veterans receive high-quality meals in a clean and safe environment.

This position is integral to maintaining the standards of the VA Medical Center and providing excellent service to our Veterans.

Multiple shifts available, detailed as follows :

Schedule A : 6 : 00am-2 : 30pm daily, off Mondays and Tuesdays

Schedule B : 6 : 00am-2 : 30pm daily, off Wednesdays and Thursdays

Schedule C : 6 : 00am-2 : 30pm daily, off Friday and Saturday

Schedule D : 11 : 00am-7 : 30pm daily, off Mondays and Tuesdays

Schedule E : 11 : 00am-7 : 30pm daily, off Thursdays and Fridays

Schedule F : 11 : 00am-7 : 30pm daily, off Tuesday and Wednesday

Schedule G : 11 : 30am-3 : 30pm daily, off Sunday, Thursday and Friday

Primary Responsibilities

• Set up various stations on the central tray-line with all necessary food and non-food items to serve meals.
• Break down, clean assigned areas, and return items to designated locations after tray service.
• Serve food cafeteria style to Veterans, staff, and visitors, ensuring high standards of customer service.
• Prepare service stands by setting up condiments, silverware, and glassware for table service.
• Serve tables by placing food and beverages on tables and replenish as necessary, maintaining a respectful and professional demeanor.
• Load and deliver food carts to patient care units.
• Distribute trays and / or nourishments to specified locations or directly to patients' bedside, demonstrating kindness and respect.
• Collect soiled trays and return them to the dish-room for processing.
• Assemble salads and cold sandwiches from prepared ingredients and pack box lunches.
• Complete cold food prep and assemble food / menu items such as individual nourishments, entrees, meats, starches, vegetables, breads, salads, desserts, beverages, condiments, tray ware, and serving utensils.
• Set up and operate the dishwasher.
• Clean and maintain the dishwasher by inspecting doors, strainer pans, screens, and spray arms as necessary.
• Perform a variety of tasks in the dish-room, such as scraping trays, sorting, stacking, racking tray ware for loading into the dish-machine, and pulling clean tray ware from the dish-machine.
• Scrape, soak, and scrub heavier cooking utensils such as pots, mixing bowls, and other large size utensils.
• Perform heavy-duty cleaning throughout the food service and related areas, including cleaning exhaust hoods, spaces under and behind kitchen equipment, and washing floors and walls with power equipment (including moving equipment).
• Clean walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
• Unload food from delivery trucks and store food deliveries and supplies in walk-in refrigerators / freezers, and dry storage areas.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the food service operations.
• Assist the food service worker assigned to the ingredient control room.
• Empty trash from kitchen areas to the waste receptacle located outside near the receiving dock.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in food service or a similar environment preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact positively with veterans, staff, and visitors.
• Physical ability to perform tasks that require prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting of heavy items.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
• Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
• Ability to obtain any government required background check.
