A Brief Overview
The position is responsible for various cardiovascular diagnostic, monitoring and support procedures, point-of-care laboratory testing, and logistical support in the Cardiovascular Perfusion department.
By nature, the work environment may be stressful at times due to the critical and / or emergent nature of the procedures and longer case times / hours due to nature of the surgeries.
On-call coverage (up to 50%) is required.
Education Qualifications
Successful completion of a course of study in a medical / technical field (ex. EMT, OR tech, medical assistant, CNA) Required
Experience Qualifications
Experience in a cardiovascular and / or surgical environment. Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to function in emergent, stressful situations. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to assume on-call responsibilities and respond within 30 minutes. (Required proficiency)
What you will do
- Performs the following procedures independently :
- Intra-operative auto transfusion
- Intra-operative platelet gel processing
- Quarterly quality control of cell saver equipment as well as platelet gel equipment
- Lead) Active participation in blood transfusion committee
- Intra-operative BMA (Bone Marrow Aspiration) processing for Stem Cells
- Point-of-care testing laboratory testing and associated quality control for arterial blood gases, electrolyte profiles, hematological and coagulation parameters
- Transducer set-up and interface; assistance with flow-directed catheter placement; cardiac output determinations.
- Assists Perfusionist during cardiovascular procedures.
- Perform POCT procedures.
- Participates in call coverage as assigned by the Chief Perfusionist.
- Completes charges for procedures.
- Tracks supply inventory and orders supplies.
- Ensure all perfusion supplies are ordered, stocked and available.
- Performs equipment preventative maintenance.
- Management of laboratory analyzers & the software as well as routine maintenance.
- Assists in routine cleaning and maintenance of heater coolers as well as appropriate documentation.
- Assist with IABP monitoring and set up.
- Assist with Impella monitoring and set up.
