Job Summary
Screens and assesses patients for potential malnutrition before and after organ transplantation and other abdominal surgeries.
Educates staff and patients on nutrition related topics and organ transplantation. Documents in medical records consistent with department policies and regulatory agency guidelines.
Maintains standards of practice in accordance with department and hospital policy.
Accountabilities
Assesses, collaborates, recommends, and delivers nutrition care for individual clients / patients as a part of the pre-transplant evaluation, both the short-term and long-term recovery phases after organ transplantation or abdominal surgery, and during medical management of liver diseases in both the in-patient and out-patient settings.
Educates and counsels patients / clients on nutrition as it relates to chronic and end-stage organ failure, organ transplantation, and prevention and management of associated chronic diseases.
Assesses, collaborates, recommends implementation and monitors hyperalimentation, enteral feeding and oral supplementation for the individual clients / patients.
Provides nutrition-related information and technical assistance.
Actively participates in public / community outreach regarding organ donor and organ transplant awareness.
Actively participates in marketing programs / activities for the transplant program; creates and updates nutrition-related patient education materials as well as nutrition-related information on the Prisma Health website, newsletter, and other transplant program publications.
Supervisory / Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Qualifications
Education - Bachelor's degree from an Academy of Dietetics (AND) accredited institution and / or approved internship program
Experience - No previous experience required. Inpatient, outpatient or community healthcare experience ( PREFERRED)

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
Maintain 75 hours of continuing education every 5 years
Ability to interpret data, teach, communicate to other healthcare professionals, manipulate numbers and write in medical record
Knowledge of AND, Joint Commission, Department of Health and Environmental Control and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (PREFERRED)
