Overview
The Senior Director of Clinical Practice, Simulation and Training works closely with operations leadership (Family Services, Clinical Services, Organ Placement and Surgical Recovery) and staff to increase organ donation and optimize organs transplanted per donor through the delivery and implementation of effective and efficient training and simulation programs and competency assessment of all operations staff.
The Senior Director of Clinical Practice, Simulation and Training is one of the principal resources for organ donation related clinical operations education in the organization.
Responsibilities
- Manages and oversees the clinical practice, simulation and training program for the following departments : Family Services, Clinical Services, Organ Placement and Surgical Recovery which includes but is not limited to scheduling, staff orientation, field experiences, competency evaluation and educational offerings.
- Works with other departments to assure team members complete documentation of all activities accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintains active daily communication between team members and other personnel involved in practice, simulation and training situations.
- Continuously monitors and improves systems to ensure high quality staff, efficient training and onboarding process and maximize donors and the number of organs procured.
- Based upon the strategic plan and goals developed by the organization, collaborates to develop and monitor specific annual quality improvement goals, and continuously measures performance and process improvement.
Assists in defining and monitoring measures of departmental effectiveness.
- Takes Clinical Lead and or Administrator On-Call as assigned
- Performs all duties and responsibilities of the Clinical Manager and / or Transplant Coordinator on an as needed basis.
- Participates on Medical Board committees, e.g. Medical Board, Kidney-Pancreas Committee, Infectious Disease, and Liver Consortium as needed.
- Functions as an integral part of LiveOnNY’s executive leadership team developing policy, planning, and managing the organization.
Assists in establishing organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
- Functions as an active member of clinical operations leadership. Facilitates departmental meetings as needed as assigned
- Maintains direct reports as assigned i.e. departmental practice and training specialist, clinical manager, clinical coordinators.
- Participates in recruitment, interviewing and hiring of potential candidates. Makes recommendations to hire and fire employees and recommend for advancement or promotion.
- Serves as resource to team members when they are on call to assist with donor assessment and evaluation, donor management, organ placement, recovery of organs and tissue, etc.

Clinical Operational (Family, Clinical, Organ Placement, Surgical Recovery) Education & Development Responsibilities :
Complete training and development functions, including but not limited to :
- Facilitation of instructor-led practice and simulation in the office, virtually, and in the field;
- Assessment of competency of operations staff, formally and informally, in the office and onsite, to determine training needs and / or sign off potential;
- Assist Operational leadership with needs analysis to determine staff training and assessment needs;
- Design and development of training courses that meet training objectives in collaboration with Operation’s leadership or independently using agreed upon training standards for training design and development; and
- Provide training to non-clinical staff as needed.
- Deliver / implement training using current regulatory guidelines and compliance standards for each process or task as well as deliver / implement training due to updates in current guidelines and standards.
- Manage the day-to-day work of implementing the clinical operations’ onboarding and ongoing training programs, including but not limited to : Working with the Practice and Training Specialist, departmental directors and managers to prepare for the arrival of new operation staff members;
Ensures all trainees are assessed and signed off before performing job responsibilities independently; andCollaborates with trainee managers during onboarding to ensure training needs for individual staff are met.
- Manage the day-to-day work of implementing the Preceptor / Mentor Program, including but not limited to : Maintain and update status, training and assessment needs of each trainee using agreed upon methods and technology;
- Communicate with preceptors to ensure effective completion of preceptor responsibilities;Collaborate with trainees, preceptors, and managers to coordinate trainee training opportunities;
and provide trainees and preceptors with regular evaluation opportunities to collect individual and process improvement opportunities.
Clinical Operations (Family, Clinical, Organ Placement, Surgical Recovery) Education and Simulation Program Responsibilities :
Deliver and implement clinical operations practice and simulation programs that meet LiveOnNY’s objectives of optimizing organ donors and organs transplanted per donor as well as regulatory requirements.
- Actively engage in process improvement efforts to improve the practice and training program, including but not limited to : provide feedback to Operation’s Leadership regarding the design or structure of instructor-led training courses / programs (virtual, in office, or in the field) and recommend solutions to challenges where possible;
- work with the Practice and Training Specialist and departmental leadership to implement effective and efficient training processes for onboarding and ongoing training;
andparticipates in departmental staff meetings to identify opportunities for improvement and trainingparticipates in Operations Leadership meetings to identify opportunities for improvement and training.
Admin and Quality Responsibilities :
Participate in timely resolution of non-conformance investigations and development of
appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
Submit appropriate documentation for all training events attended.
Other Responsibilities :
The Senior Director of Clinical Practice, Simulation and Training will follow other instructions / directions and will perform other related duties as required by the needs of the organization.
They will also ensure that they :
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and LiveOnNY policies and procedures.
- Participate in compliance, quality assurance, and performance improvement programs and initiatives.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education or related field is required (Nursing Preferred); three to five years’ educational leadership experience managing and overseeing the Clinical Training Department of an OPO.
- Experience with Simulation Training and development preferred.
- CPTC required
Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must own or have immediate access to a motor vehicle duly registered and insured by law.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Knowledge and ability to function in hospital operating room. Sensitivity to grieving family members; good interpersonal skills.
Ability to teach and coach and work effectively as a team member.

Salary Range $150,000-$191,000
