Our well-known dairy company is looking for an Operations Manager to oversee a manufacturing facility in central Minnesota, near St.
Cloud. This position will be a key part of the team, reporting directly to the Plant Manager, and will be responsible for managing and mentoring a 24 / 7 operation, ensuring the development of effective and efficient teams.
In collaboration with the Plant Steering Team, the Operations Manager will help develop and implement short and long-term strategies, provide project leadership, and manage staffing and employee engagement.
This role involves leading a production team consisting of seven salaried employees and over 140 hourly associates. The main goals of the Operations Manager will be to foster a strong safety culture, maintain positive employee relations and engagement, and ensure consistency across all teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Develop and implement programs to optimize the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of facility assets.
- Manage and improve safety, quality, service, and cost performance within the assigned area.
- Provide recommendations on long-term labor strategies and capital equipment needs to senior management.
- Develop and implement changes to systems, policies, and procedures, ensuring accurate and timely implementation.
- Work with Human Resources on employee relations matters, ensuring consistent application of policies and expectations.
- Align department and company vision and goals, implementing strategies and tactics accordingly.
- Develop and manage operating budget and capital spending plans for the assigned area of responsibility.
- Identify and develop staff capabilities to consistently achieve departmental objectives.
- Ensure industry best practices are implemented and employees receive appropriate training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- High school diploma / GED and 7+ years of supervisory / management experience in food processing / manufacturing operations, with a proven track record of progressive leadership experience.
- Strong presentation, communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of product and labor cost variances.
- Experience in high-speed food manufacturing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Ten years of supervisory / management experience in cheese or food manufacturing operations, with a proven track record of progressive leadership experience.
- MBA or master’s degree in engineering, preferred.
- Proven ability to collaborate with all levels and functions within the company.
- Skilled in project management.
- Experience leveraging the skills and abilities of front-line employees.
- Knowledge and exposure to TPM, Six Sigma, and various problem-solving methodologies.
