POSITION TITLE : Opportunity Center Dean of Students
REPORTS TO : Principal
Job Purpose Statement : Overall student management and dealing with student individual issues and developing student success plans.
Other student behavior needs, interventions, and processes may also be assigned.
Essential Job Functions :
Create, monitor, and adjust individual success plans for each student with a focus on support mechanisms to include but not limited to school Counselors, Home School Communicators, Social workers, Teachers etc.
transition to traditional school, parental collaboration and interventions while working with school administration to ensure success of each student.
- Create and implement a transition plan with timeline as part of their overall individual success plan for students to return to their traditional school.
- Serve as a case manager to follow-up with their traditional school to determine the success of the transition plan and to ensure the transition plan is being fully implemented.
- Investigate assigned discipline referrals according to due process to students.
- Confer with principal / assistant principal on appropriate consequences for behavior including detention, in school suspension and out of school suspension.
- Communicate behavior infractions, results of investigation, and any assigned consequences from principal / assistant principal to parents / guardians.
- Draft re-entry plan and facilitate re-entry meeting with students, parents, and teachers including avenues to repair harm to affected parties.
- Counsel students and parents about the school and district.
- Coordinate alternative education placement.
Other Job Functions :
- Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral plans.
- Assist in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention
- Assist in monitoring and supervision of students
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements-Qualifications :
Experience Required : Three years' successful teaching or prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities in a school setting.
Skills in working with students to address individual needs. Strong organizational skills.
Attendance Requirement : Regular attendance is necessary and is an essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
Skills, Knowledge and / or Abilities Required :
Skills to manage students and programs, communicate effectively, problem solve.
Knowledge of discipline procedures, education code, district policies.
Abilities to sit for prolonged periods, provide direction to others and make independent judgments, keep and maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, communicate in oral and written form.
Significant physical abilities include reaching / handling / use of fingers, talking / hearing conversations, near visual acuity / visual accommodation.
Licenses, Certifications : Teacher certification 6-8, 9-12 or Counseling K-12 required; working towards or current Administrative Certification 9-12 or School Leader K-12 preferred.
Salary : Employee will be paid from the Teacher’s Salary Schedule.
Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position :
Computer and related software, variety of cleaning equipment, hand truck, temperature gauge / logger, adding machine.
