The Bowery Mission seeks a Development Coordinator who will work to support this agency’s 150 year legacy of supporting the flourishing of New Yorkers overcoming homelessness and marginalization by providing compassionate services in a transformative community.
As part of the Major Gifts & Development Operations Team within the larger Development Team, the Development Coordinator will function as the administrative arm of the Senior Director , Major Gifts & Development Operations (Interim) and will facilitate collaboration between staff members to accomplish shared goals.
The Coordinator provides support to the Senior Director within the team with administrative processes and team projects related to revenue goal-setting and tracking, budgeting and reconciliation, caseload management, meeting preparation, reporting, production of marketing materials, and more.
The Coordinator will assist in managing internal systems and processes to ensure the smooth operation of the team activities in a way that provides superior, personal, responsive, relevant, timely, and productive relationships with donors and other stakeholders / constituents.
The Coordinator is not a frontline fundraiser, but rather assists the Senior Director , to achieve annual team goals.
The Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting various aspects of fundraising, including development operations, individual giving, legacy giving, major gifts, corporate, foundation, community, and church partnerships, volunteers, fundraising events, donor engagement and stewardship, gift-in-kind donations, donor database, and direct response marketing, all of which generate significant financial revenue and in-kind goods and services for The Bowery Mission’s life-transforming programs.
This position is hybrid. Full-time employees work 40 hours per week with the Development Coordinator spending a minimum of 2-3 days per week onsite at our Tribeca, NY office (subject to change) and traveling to other campus locations and event venues as needed.
The weekly schedule is Monday - Friday 9 : 00 am - 5 : 30 pm.
Reports to : Senior Director, Major Gifts & Development Operations (Interim)
Key Responsibilities :
- Manage the administrative function of the Major Gifts & Development Operations Team, assisting the Senior Director with administrative duties and tasks, including meeting setup, donor research, reports, donation tracking, and support of legacy giving strategy.
- Track all revenues raised in Major Gifts against budget and reconcile monthly.
- Record all donor correspondence in Salesforce (CRM database).
- Collaborate within the Development Team and represent The Bowery Mission professionally.
- Assist the Senior Director with the relationship with appropriate vendors. Complete scheduling, set-up, agenda facilitation, note-taking, coordinating meeting details, and follow-up for vendor meetings.

- Communication : Strong communicator, verbally and in writing, tailoring messages to different audiences
- Development : Basic understanding of fundraising methods including, event fundraising
- Project / Process Management : Ability to manage projects and create efficient processes
- Problem Solving : Ability to discern problems and propose solutions with input from key stakeholders
- Relationship Building : Excellent interpersonal skills, and experience cultivating relationships within organizations
Minimum Requirements :
- Embrace the organization’s Statement of Faith
- Bachelor’s degree in related field of study
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Advanced software knowledge including Microsoft Office and CRM databases
- Resourceful, organized, detail-oriented, and task-oriented
- Ability to work under pressure with sound judgment
Preferred :
- At least two years of development / fundraising experience
- Prior experience within nonprofits and philanthropy
- Proficiency with project management software (Asana or equivalent) and CRM databases (Salesforce, Raisers Edge or equivalent customer database)
Salary commensurate with relevant education & experience : $48,000 - $52,000 per year
