General Summary

The position is open to apply for current Highline employees only.

The Associate Dean of Innovation & Transformation reports to the Vice President of Equity, Diversity, & Transformation. The Associate Dean leads a team of Managers on implementing and maintaining student basic needs programs including : Student Housing & Retention (SSEH), WISH, the Highline Community Pantry, emergency funding including SEAG, and the United Way Benefits Hub.

In addition, the Associate Dean oversees the College’s new Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiative, and the office of EDT’s Tribal Outreach efforts, co-leads campus-wide EDT learning efforts, inclusive of the Climate Survey results.

This body of work is accomplished through both on and off campus collaborative efforts, develops and implements innovative student-centered programming, services, policies and procedures which reflect the mission and values of the EDT division and the college.

The Associate Dean of Innovation, Transformation, and Student Support provides paths toward new program development, oversight of existing programs,cultivatesnewpartnerships,andleadscross-divisionalinitiativesthatbenefitthe College community including faculty, staff, and students within an equity framework.

These innovations would aim at creating a healthy campus climate as well as reducing equity gaps in student and employee participation, recruitment, retention and achievement.

This position is an exempt, at-will, full-time position.

Essential Tasks

Specific responsibilities of this position include, and are not limited to :

  • Provides college-wide leadership, direction, development, implementation and continues improvements regarding innovative and transformative initiatives;
  • Consult with college and community resources on behalf of a variety of student types including non-credit students, pre- college students, Native Students and Hispanic / Latine identified students;
  • DevelopapayequityanalysisstudywithHumanResourcesresultinginpolicy recommendations for the College;
  • Oversee and implementation of Senate Bill 5194 which includes but is not limited to conduct annual listening and feedback sessions and provide anti-racist training to all new faculty and staff;
  • Supervise multiple full time staff including SHoRe Program Manager, Community; Pantry Manager, Benefits Hub Program Manager ,and future staff as appropriate;
  • Provide performance feedback and support, and conduct formal performance evaluations as required;
  • Oversee student non academic support services i.e. basic needs hub in compliance with SB 1559 with a goal of increasing persistence and completion rates and oversee the SBCTC’s Basic Needs Campus Strategic Plan;
  • Co-create Institutional Effectiveness Plans with relevant staff incorporating SMARTLIE goals;
  • Collaborate with Title III Director in leading the HSI Initiative with special emphasis on principles of servingness;
  • Collaborate with agencies such as UWKC, ES, KCHA, Tribal Leaders, and CBOs to develop partnerships rooted in innovation, equity, and reciprocity;
  • Lead the campus efforts on financial education, literacy, and asset building in compliance with SB5100;
  • Collect, manage and report data on services provided and create high quality reports when necessary;
  • Support the VP of EDT and team on the Campus Climate Survey responsiveness;
  • Engage in collaborative relationships with counterparts at other colleges;
  • Lead grant management cycles with funders and stakeholders;
  • Actively engage in department and campus community;
  • Identify support service needs for students and implement procedures to combat common barriers;
  • Navigate relevant campus programs to coordinate, streamline, and build sustainable services;
  • Collaborate across divisions on fulfilling the mission of the Office of EDT;
  • Ensures compliance with off-campus partnerships MOUs and contracts as related to portfolio;
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

  • Proven ability to develop effective new student programs aimed at diverse student body;
  • Skills in ensuring compliance with contracts, MOUs, and program outcomes and guidelines;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English and Spanish;
  • Ability to interact productively and lead teams of students, faculty, staff, educational partners, and community members who span a diverse range of nationalities, languages, socio-economic levels, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, and educational experiences;
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills that foster the respect and confidence of others including sensitivity to the needs of students who are homeless, low income, limited English speaking, or impacted by domestic violence, substance abuse or other barriers;
  • Ability to navigate higher education and relevant support systems and to support student’s efforts to succeed in an educational environment;
  • Knowledge of public benefits programs and non-profit services at the federal, state, and local levels;
  • Ability to interpret federal, state and local policies;
  • Ability to author local policy with an equity framework;
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple timelines and details;
  • Proven ability to engage in creative problem solving;
  • Thorough understanding and ability to maintain the confidentiality of protected information (FERPA);
  • Ability to navigate an electronic environment;
  • Spanish speaking abilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university; AND
  • minimum five years of experience working in student basic needs, leading large-scale initiatives, and higher education experience; AND
  • Experience in a multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master’s Degree and three years of experience working in student basic needs, leading large-scale initiatives, and higher education experience;
  • Multilingual fluency.
