Job Description
Company Overview : Our client is seeking an experienced Power Plant Systems Operator for a large State facility in Colorado Springs, CO.
The operators are responsible for performing skilled activities in the observation, maintenance, and adjustment of power plant and / or hydro plant operating systems.
Position Summary : The successful candidate shall have a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience equipped with prior training in a relevant field or training regime.
Work Schedule :
Average Hours per week and days (M-F) : 36-48 hours per week with a rotating 12-hour shift, 5 on, 5 off, 2 on, 2 off, or 4-week rotation days and night shifts.
Responsibilities :
- Conducts routine operational checks and readings on plant equipment and adjusting, regulating, and maintaining oil levels, water levels, temperatures and flows at required specifications.
- Performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment as scheduled
- Performs basic mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks, inspecting, and troubleshooting as assigned
- Performs chemical analysis and chemical control on steam, cooling, and condensate systems; maintaining chemistry logs
- Handles and transfers bulk chemicals and explosive gases( e.g. H2, N2, O2, CO2, and acetylene, etc.) properly.
- Inspects the plant site for security, safety, and environmental issues
- Assists with maintenance during plant outages
- Maintains shift operating logs and records
- Completes all required safety and occupational training
- Performs housekeeping activities necessary to operate safely and maintain facility cleanliness and appearance.
Minimum Qualifications :
- 1 - 3 years in a power generation or similar environment preferred. Experience in a coal-fired power plant is highly preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude as evidenced by the successful completion from our client's Operator testing.
- Power plant apprenticeship program completion prior or military training related to power generation.
Necessary Attributes :
- Knowledge of power plant processes
- Above average technical aptitude (understanding of basic chemistry, electricity, and mathematical principles)
- Skilled in performing inspection of outside plant equipment and facilities, performing chemical tests, reading gauges and meters, and troubleshooting power plant equipment and systems.
- Ability to utilize interpersonal skills to communicate with coworkers, supervisor, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and receive work direction.
- Ability to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations.
- Work safely and brings safety hazards to attention of management.
- Demonstrates support for organizational changes and improvements. Brings forth new ideas and concepts that may impact efficiency and may lower costs.
