Summary of Functions
The Senior Painter is an expert in all areas related to interior and exterior painting. The Senior Painter has a comprehensive understanding and expert knowledge of commonly used concepts and best practices under minimum or no supervision to perform their job duties for small and large projects as it relates to new construction, renovations, repair and preventive maintenance to all Kalispel Tribe properties.
In addition, a Senior Painter may mentor other less experienced Painters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Insure quality meets all KDEV standards.
- Extensive knowledge on preparation techniques, adhesive and application techniques that are most appropriate for a given material and work surface.
- Protects surfaces, trimmings, fixtures, windows, etc. through the completion of the painting project.
- Prepares, primes, sands, seals, patches and paints interior or exterior surface utilizing all types of painting materials such as latex, lacquer, varnish, enamel, epoxy, water-proofing and heat resistant finishes.
- Preparing painting surfaces by washing walls, repairing holes, or removing old paint.
- Mixing, matching, and applying paints and other finishes to various surfaces.
- Providing decorative and faux finishes per the contract documents.
- Preparing the surrounding area by covering with cloth or plastic to prevent messes.
- Selecting and purchasing paint, brushes, and other supplies from approved vendors.
- Always responsible for clean-up of the project site and putting tools and equipment back in its proper place as well as cleaning and maintaining all painting equipment and tools.
- Operates, cleans and maintains all painting equipment including brushes, rollers and sprays.
- Experience in reading and analyzing blueprints, specifications, and finish schedules.
- Estimates time and materials as required for new projects and maintaining existing buildings.
- Places orders of all associated materials and equipment needed for the project.
- Deliver and pick up parts, equipment and supplies from storage and vendors.
- Ability to work with no supervision and direct other painters as needed.
- Schedule all painting activities thru Construction Project Superintendent.
- Ability to complete work per project schedule as well as meet tight deadlines.
- Prepares job and work surface by carefully and safely setting-up materials at the project site, which could include setting up ladders or erecting scaffolding safely to perform tasks above ground level.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and application techniques common to the painting trade.
- Knowledge and skill in hazardous materials handling, application and disposal.
- Knowledge of stains, lacquers and wood types.
- Knowledge of blending wood grains and wood patterns.
- Knowledge of painting and staining furniture.
- Available and willing to work any changes in hours deemed necessary for Business Levels
- Responsible for maintaining a consistent, regular good attendance record.
- May be required to be a panelist for the Internal Review Hearings.
- Ensures that highest possible standards of guest satisfaction and Team Member relations are maintained and carried out in a fair and equitable manner conducive to that goal.

Education / Experience
- One-year certificate from college or technical school.
- 15+ years of commercial, industrial, facilities or residential painting experience.
- 5+ years as a painter with the Kalispel Tribe or at the discretion of the Director of Projects & Construction Management and Construction Project Superintendent.
Skills
- Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft programs and other computer software (COGZ).
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with public department heads, associates and the public.
- Skill in identifying and resolving problems under pressure situations.
Other Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Tribal Work Permit.
- Valid Driver’s License (Must be in possession while operating a Tribal Vehicle).
- Certification is required to operate a forklift.
- Work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
