Overview
Reporting directly to the Camp Coordinator, the Counselor is responsible for the supervision of the children enrolled in the Kids Summer Adventure program.
This is a 5 week position, starting on July 1 and ending on August 2nd.
35 hours per week (Monday-Friday 8 : 00 .-3 : 30
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead activites / games during the program.
- Uphold program policies and rules.
- Ensure children are on time for all activities.
- Monitor children at all times.
- Report any health or emotion problems observed in children to Corps Officers.
- Attend any staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma / GED required with 2 years related experience
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and exercise initiative
- Ability to take charge and motivate others
- Ability to work with a wide variety of ages and demographic groups
- Ability to observe camper behavior, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures and respond appropriately
- Must have enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self control
- College students / graduates with previous camp / childcare experience preferred
- Valid NY State Driver License that meets The Salvation Army’s insurance requirements
- Professionally and ethically represent The Salvation Army and its mission to the staff, families, and community.
