At Houston Methodist the Staff Pharmacistposition is responsible for providing daytoday comprehensivepatientoriented pharmacy services in any or all areas of thedepartment which includes processing orders therapy review andeducation to patients and other members of the direct patient careteam.
This position collaborates with other health careprofessionals to manage patients drug therapies for effectivenessand overall safety.
The Staff Pharmacist position contributes tothe fulfillment of the departments mission by collaborating toprovide innovative personalized costeffective pharmaceutical carein a culture dedicated to quality and safety.
This position is alsoresponsible for the oversight of pharmacy technicians and studentsand may serve as a preceptor ensuring the accurate and timelydelivery of pharmaceuticals.
PEOPLEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Promotesa positive work environment and contributes to a dynamicteamfocused work unit that actively helps one another to achieveoptimal department results.
Collaborates with all members of thepatient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinentpatient care information and data in a comprehensive manner.
Guides and mentorspharmacy technicians and students to help build confidence inskills knowledge and abilities. In the absence of Senior StaffPharmacists or other higher level serves as a coordinator for theshift overseeing and leading activities of technicians and othersupport staff.
SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Processes allorders / requests accurately and efficiently verifyingappropriateness of all drugs in reference to the patients diagnosisallergies height andweight.
- Monitors workloadfluctuations and work output of pharmacy technician(s) adjustingassignments as appropriate to ensure accurate and timely deliveryof medications to patient careareas.
- Conducts proactivedrug therapy reviews and monitoring providing drug informationpatient counseling and management of pharmacistbased dosingprotocols collaborating with other health care staff for problemresolution for the achievement of patientspecificgoals.
QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
Collaborates withother health care professionals to manage patients drug therapy foreffectiveness side effects adverse drug reactions toxicities druginteractions and incompatibilities following guidelines forformulary management and clinical intervention tools in theachievement of patient specific goals.
Documents patient careactivities and patient outcomes as impacted by pharmaceutical careand clinicalinterventions.
Participatesin department quality management activities i.e. medication useevaluations adverse drug reactions and medication error reportingclinical interventions medication center reviews and inventorymanagement documentation andreporting.

- Managesinventory to minimize waste and expired drugs in the work area aswell as uses ones resources effectively andefficiently.

- NRPNeonatal Resuscitation For pharmacists regularly assigned torespond to Code Blue events within 90 days AND
- IV CertificationIntravenous certification (ACPE) If applicable to primary workassignment within 6 months
