Position Title : Tool and Die Maker

Location : Birmingham, Alabama

Position Status : Full-Time, Direct-Hire

Shift : Off Shift (2nd, 3rd)

Position Description :

Our client is looking for Tool and Die Maker candidates for a position located in Birmingham, AL. Our client is an automotive supplier that provides metal stamping and chassis engineering solutions.

Ideal candidates will have 2 years of Die Casting experience and have experience troubleshooting Die Cast Machines.

Responsibilities :

• Ensure daily Pre-Shift inspections and frequency checks are completed accurately and conduct planned inspection audits on each shift.
• Conduct Pre-Shift meetings with the team to communicate safety and / or quality issues production targets and pass down.
• Complete all necessary documentation including hourly data collection with downtime reasons and ensure distribution of EOS (End of Shift) report through email at end of your daily shift.
• Fills in for Team Members that need to temporarily leave the line (emergency, bathroom break, etc.)
• Ensure that all operation documentation is up to date and in correct location.
• Operate production equipment as needed to cover for planned / unplanned absenteeism and / or to facilitate improved production start-ups.
• Routinely make visual inspections of emergency evacuation routes correcting any safety concerns immediately.
• Conduct daily safety talks in pre-shift meetings and ensure employees sign safety training roster.
• Assign daily work assignments for die casting employees on a daily basis - monitor throughout day and make adjustments to support operations.
• Maintain open communication and provide continued support to other departments regarding any changes, problems, or special projects.

• Provide feedback and recommendations to the supervisor regarding employee performance and training needs.
• Achieve first time quality and efficiency to meet production requirements.
• Supervise Team Leaders in their job performance and ensure fulfillment of policies, practices and procedures.
• Ability to do basic first-off quality inspections. Hard Gauging, measurements with calipers, and X-Ray.
• Maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
• Immediately attend to all accidents and injuries. Assist the supervisor with the completion of the accident and injury investigation program (within 24 hours), while following up to ensure procedure implementation and completion.
• Support company and customer quality systems, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing process and creativity / innovation.

Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.

• Initiate and address corrective actions immediately as required (example : unsafe conditions, unsafe work practices, failing to follow process, failing to follow rules / policies as outlined in handbook)
• Ensure that all checking tools are in good working order and are calibrated.
• Fosters team cooperation; takes personal ownership of communications; supports group problem solving; ensures progress toward goals;

• Monitor and maintain good housekeeping following 5S standards and participate in 5S walks with leadership.
• Support the continuous improvement of Safety, Quality, Delivery & Productivity
• Develop and facilitate on-the-job employee training -encourages training and development.
• Provides performance coaching to team - motivates for increased results; recognizes contributions.
• Help coordinate engineering changes. (example : rainbow tags, clean points, break points, FIFO, etc)
• Die Setting - opening and flipping dies.
• Assist in die change-overs (upon approval of tool room)
• Capable of assisting ES in changing of shot rings.
• Promotes good housekeeping (5S)
