Job Title : Superintendent

Location : Macon, GA

Role Summary :

As a key member of the papermaking department’s management team, the Superintendent provides leadership, operational strategies, and safety management for the department.

This role ensures the safe and efficient operations of all department activities, while driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, cost, and performance.

Key Responsibilities :

• Lead and refine standard work systems to improve safety, environmental practices, people development, quality, and cost.
• Promote safety as a core value, ensuring a safe work environment and adherence to safety goals.
• Oversee efficient operation of machines and develop strategies to meet customer quality standards.
• Mentor leadership team, fostering accountability and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with management to set production and quality control standards, develop budgets, and establish cost controls.
• Manage area production activities, establish priorities, and ensure alignment with cost and operational targets.
• Develop and manage area budgets, taking ownership of financial performance.
• Implement improvement strategies to boost customer satisfaction, increase yield and operating efficiency, reduce cost, and improve reliability.
• Lead continuous improvement projects for the department.
• Coordinate with maintenance to prioritize predictive and preventive maintenance needs.
• Oversee capital improvement projects and contribute to strategic plans for all mill areas.
• Communicate business strategy, goals, and initiatives to mill and area leadership.
• Review and analyze reports to identify production or quality issues, implementing corrective measures.

Qualifications : Required :

Required :

Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Paper Science, or related field with 5 years of paper industry operations experience, including 5 years in leadership roles

10+ years of paper industry experience with 5 years in paper machine supervisory roles.

• Strong leadership, strategic planning, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and drive continuous improvement in the papermaking process.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Experience developing and managing budgets, with a focus on financial performance.
• Knowledge of integrated mill operations.
• Experience leading change and mentoring leadership teams.
• Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and reference check.

Desired :

• Experience in a unionized environment.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
• Familiarity with Kepner-Tregoe or other problem analysis tools.
