The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice provides students from the Bronx with a comprehensive High School education and lay the academic and social groundwork for success in college and careers.

Using a theme of law and social justice, the School will engage, inspire, and empower students and will equip them with the academic skills to earn a Regents diploma and gain admission to the college of their choice, prepared for success.

The School will create a pathway for its students to law school and careers in the legal field. The path will include mentoring opportunities with law students and attorneys and partnerships with institutions of higher learning.

These institutions will offer college and law school experiences to our students and share with them the academic benchmarks and habits necessary to gain entrance to college and law school.

  • Commitment The Reading Intervention Teacher provides targeted instructional support to meet the literacy needs of struggling students through small-group instruction.

The role requires the ability to build trusting relationships with struggling readers and foster a supportive learning environment to achieve growth in our students’ literacy.

The ideal candidate is adaptive in nature, has a positive approach to hard work, and is relentless in their pursuit of seeing every child become a reader.

This position is responsible for planning, monitoring, reporting, communicating student progress and performance, and collaborating with general education staff.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Required - Bachelor in Education. Required - NYS Teaching Certification in Special Education or a related field.

Required - At least two years of prior teaching experience. Masters in Secondary Education or a related field preferred At least two years of teaching experience in 8th grade or high school.

Demonstrated success working in non-traditional and / or urban school settings. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience with educational technology (SMARTBoard, Student Laptops, etc.) Willingness to learn and grow professionally.

RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Responsibilities Assists with identifying students for placement intervention groups Plan and deliver high-quality small group instruction that meets the targeted needs of scholars (decoding / fluency / comprehension) Administer ongoing reading assessments to monitor the progress of intervention efforts Collaborate with classroom teachers, as needed, around teaching reading and supporting students in the mainstream setting and best classroom instructional practices Collaborate with other Reading Intervention Teachers to ensure programs support each other and align appropriately across school divisions Lead or co-lead literacy-focused professional development sessions Uses identified research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student needs Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress Provides data to school teams and participates in indecisions about student progress Communicate with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed Attends the appropriate training to improve knowledge and skills Performs other related duties as assigned Skills and Abilities Able to work independently and in a self-reliant manner Ability to turn best practices into high-quality, goal-driven results Ability to apply instructional strategies on differentiation Ability to collect data and make course placement recommendations for students Displays effective time management skills Experience with data management tools, organizational tools, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
