What You'll Be Doing

As a Biomedical Technician you will be responsible for maintaining, calibrating, inspecting and repairing clinical and patient care equipment.

Makes certain that performed tasks comply with established guidelines stipulated by the NFPA, AAMI, TJC and the system. Possesses the ability and experience to service all medical equipment commonly used for patient diagnostics and treatment.

He / she is skilled in performing preventative maintenance, installing, testing, calibrating, and repairing biomedical equipment;

while maintaining safe operations

  • Will regularly need to be available to work after hours and be scheduled for on call rotating schedule
  • Ensures that the biomedical equipment is in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and quality control standards
  • Often times will assist and train technicians and staff on medical equipment

Conducts preventive maintenance inspections appropriate to level of job competence using appropriate productivity & quality measures.

Completes monthly assigned tasks within the specified timeframe prioritizing inspections of high risk over low risk equipment.

Recognizes unsafe conditions & notifies appropriate management team members to correct them.

Works collaboratively with other team members to create & enter PM procedures following manufacturer guidelines.

Effectively responds to service requests, competently troubleshoots & repairs medical equipment appropriate to job proficiency level using established productivity & quality measures, demonstrating good judgment on performing component vs.

circuit board level repairs.

Demonstrates the need to maintain an adequate level of parts on hand as applicable, to assist in keeping downtime to an absolute minimum.

Timely and accurately documents all service requests and repairs in the biomedical equipment database.

Inspects new devices & equipment with competence appropriate to job proficiency level. This includes judgment on safety, compliance with codes, standards & ability to learn about the function / performance of new devices with speed & comprehension

Secures all required device information for biomedical equipment database.

Demonstrates the need to have current service and operator manuals on hand for proper servicing of all types of medical equipment.

Maintains and fulfills the department / organizational regulatory requirements and goals.

Complies with system, hospital and departmental policies and procedures and objectives.

Reports witnessed violations that put patients, staff, department or facility in jeopardy to appropriate management personnel.

Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of shop safety including the use of electronic test equipment.

Assists with responding to / correcting medical equipment recalls / device alerts from manufactures and / or .

Participates in On Call duties after normal working hours. Must respond to a call within 15 minutes by telephone, and report to the facility within a maximum of one hour if required to be on site.

Ability to give technical instruction to users over the phone minimizing equipment downtime while providing the continuum in patient care, and organizational cost effectiveness.

What We're Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical, Electrical or Clinical Engineering
  • 0 - 2 year’s relevant experience
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certificate preferred.
  • In-depth IT knowledge on configuration capsules on medical Device integrations strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of TJC, DNV, HFAP, CAP, NFPA, CMS, HIPAA, other applicable standards, and regulations preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, read schematics and / or blueprints
  • Understanding of computer and network security.
  • High degree of self-motivation, commitment, and integrity.
  • Must exhibit a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Clinical applications, CMMS systems).
  • Ability to access equipment in confined areas as needed to perform the repairs. This includes moving and lifting common items of medical equipment such as monitors, IV pumps and other movable items.
  • To ensure safety for themselves and others, the technician must have an unimpaired ability to read color-coded diagrams and instructions as well as see and hear equipment warning alarms of various colors and frequencies.
  • The ability to wear protective equipment such as surgical and N95 masks is necessary since the technician may be called upon to repair equipment in surgical suites and patient isolation units.
  • Travel to local system hospitals within Hudson County.
