Overview :
Summary and Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Academy Clinical Coordinator. The Dental Assisting Instructor primarily educates students on dental assisting fundamentals.
They are also responsible for supporting curriculum development, implementation, management, and teaching. The Dental Assisting Instructor will provide all classroom / laboratory instruction and be responsible for training site acquisition, student placement, and supervision.
They assist in managing all aspects of the program, including organization, administration, review, planning, development, reporting, and general effectiveness.
Responsibilities :
Essential Job Functions
Prepare for each class by reviewing the curriculum, lab stations, and PowerPoint presentations provided
Deliver Instructor-led Led Training with PowerPoint-based lectures, supplementing with real-life work experience as needed
Demonstrate dental skills / procedures and assist students as they practice hands-on in the lab
Evaluate individual / group performance and make any necessary adjustments to meet student learning needs
Prepare lesson / unit plans and develop course material and evaluation tools as needed, with the approval of the Academy Clinical Specialist and the Academy Director
Research and development of current standards related to the instructional area
Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning
Notify students of make-up work due
Tutor students during make-up time
Monitor students during make-up time
Maintain student records, grades, and attendance
Evaluate students on professionalism (appearance / dress code, attitude, cooperation)
Attend orientations, staff meetings, and faculty meetings as scheduled.
Assist with preparations for graduation ceremonies
Attend graduation ceremonies
Assist in inventory and ordering of supplies
Maintain classrooms in a neat and orderly fashion
Assist in equipment maintenance and report any down equipment issues to the ACS
Assist in administrative duties as needed
Is accessible to students during formal office hours and other times as needed
Assist in the department budget planning process
Coordinate student externships
Assist with interviews and hiring as needed
Attend professional development activities, including but not limited to professional association seminars, industry conferences, professional-related meetings and workshops, and research writing for profession-specific publications
Attend training for program supervisors provided for the improvement of education-related management skills
Attend other required meetings and training
Non-essential Job Functions
Participates in company social media and advertising efforts
Participates in recruiting and marketing events

Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (preferred); a minimum of associate degree required
Five years of dental assisting experience or three years of teaching in dental assisting.
Possession of a valid credential (Certified or Registered Dental Assistant or a licensed dentist) and proficiency in four-handed and / or six-handed dentistry principles
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate
Three Years experience with a school-wide discipline program and diverse student population.
Ability to coordinate and evaluate the instructional process for all dental assisting curricula.
Demonstrated leadership abilities while establishing and maintaining effective collaboration with other administrators, employees, students, parents, and community members.
Possess strong time management and prioritization skills
Ability to manage a team and establish cooperative working relationships
Possess good written and verbal communication skills
Possess problem-solving and decision-making skills
Highly organized with attention to detail
Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications
Enthusiasm for improving academic and vocational achievement.
