The Head of Planning is responsible for managing and overseeing the AJ+ Planning Team and leading the assignment process, ensuring that our long-term and immediate coverage of global and national trends, news events, and social and political developments expresses the unique values of the AJ+ brand, and is consistently of high quality, engaging, and thorough.
This position will also be required to develop and maintain effective editorial workflows between various departments of AJ+, as well as with other Newsgathering elements of the Al Jazeera Media Network.
The Head of Planning will report to the Editorial Lead and will oversee the process of developing, maintaining, and implementing an agenda of editorial priorities, directing editorial resources to ensure the most effective, value-added, brand-building coverage of relevant national and international news events.ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the daily assignment processManage planning team in creating prospects (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly) and special coverage strategiesProvide editorial direction to editorial teams based on news prospects and special eventsFinalize and approve all planning schedules on a weekly, monthly, and annually basisCoordinate with editorial and engagement teams on finalization of production schedules and special projectsManage relationships with external partners and vendors where relevantOversee collaboration and communication between Planning Department and Audience Development team on AJ+ coverage and prospectsAttend various conferences and festivals as necessaryEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor Degree or demonstrated experienceAt least 7 years’ experience in editorial roles.At least 3 years’ experience in an editorial leadership role, i.
e., supervising a team of content creators.Proven experience in video production or online journalism.
