Our digital learning department collaborates with faculty to develop digital courses that optimize student learning. By expanding and delivering our offerings in a variety of modalities, we are changing the way our students experience online education.

Our digital learning teams focus on three overarching course design goals : creating synergies for minimizing transactional distance, incorporating diverse opportunities for learning connections and designing active and applied digital learning experiences.

Responsibilities :

The Lead Instructional Technologist is an experienced professional in instructional design and technology, dedicated to supporting the design, facilitation, and delivery of in-person, online, and blended programs at the UCI Paul Merage School of Business.

This role acts as the primary liaison for courses, collaborating with faculty, teaching assistants, students, program offices, learning experience designers, instructional technologists, and campus learning technology administrators to ensure high-quality course delivery.

Responsibilities include managing technical configurations, optimizing the use of the Learning Management System (LMS) and other instructional technology tools, and troubleshooting complex technical issues.

In addition to implementing instructional best practices, the Lead Instructional Technologist supervises a team of instructional technologists and oversees the day-to-day technical support within the Instructional Support, Technology, and Operations (ISTO) unit of the Office of Digital Learning & Innovation.

The role involves strategic planning for learning technologies, developing instructional and training materials, and ensuring compliance with educational standards and regulatory requirements.

The incumbent will have a robust background in instructional design, superior communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic educational environment with a high degree of autonomy.

Required :

  • Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas.
  • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong collaboration and negotiation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
  • Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems and cloud-based systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of applying learning theories and educational methodologies.
  • Thorough knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.).
  • Advanced level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization.
  • Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.
  • Technical and professional experience using and supporting faculty and students using a learning management system, preferably Canvas learning management system by Instructure, and integrated technologies.
  • Effective leadership skills, including directing and developing staff and / or student employees.
  • Experience with leading the coordination and triage of staff and unit workload and help requests pertaining to a digital learning environment (i.

e. Canvas and / or other learning tools).

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3-5 years of experience in the instructional design / educational technology field.
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting faculty with instructional and technical design, development, delivery and support related requests
  • Supervisory and employee performance management experience and / or experience leading and coordinating work assignments for project teams.

Preferred :

  • Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact in-person, blended, and online course development.
  • Experience with departmental and unit-related budgetary planning and unit expenditures, purchases, and reporting.
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams with media producers, learning experience designers, instructional technologists, and academic personnel.
  • Masters degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $69,500- $83,000 (Annual).
