DESCRIPTION

As part of the Department of Surgery, the Center for the Future of Surgery (CFS) is a world-class facility that is advancing surgery techniques by investigating, developing, testing, and teaching procedures that will revolutionize the field of surgery.

The goal of the Center for the Future of Surgery is to continually improve and expand surgery options using emerging technology so that patients experience less pain and better outcomes.

Under general direction of the CFS Director and Chief of the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery and with administrative direction from the Division Director, responsible for overseeing and managing daily activities at CFS.

The incumbent is responsible for the management of the growing center and ensuring all training spaces and ORs are operating in compliance with campus and safety regulations.

The incumbent is responsible for the CFS operational project management and business development for both internal and external stakeholders.

Other services and areas to organize in the process are facility and maintenance, architectural design, and equipment vendors for the high-tech environment.

The incumbent is responsible for short and long-term development and implementation of policies and procedures for fiscal, administrative and operational management.

Must successfully collaborate with division chiefs, faculty, department leadership, and campus leaders to ensure goals and objectives are achieved through initiative and management leadership.

Will provide sound management of resources including the extensive equipment in the center. Must successfully develop and maintain relationships with outside vendors using the facility.

The incumbent is responsible for marketing and program development for courses at the CFS.

Supervise, hire, and train support staff. Responsible for approving operational expenses and working with the Division Administrator to achieve financial goals.

Adhere to UC policy and procedure in performing all duties of the position.

Uses skills as a seasoned and experienced administrative operations professional to manage, plan and administer the operations of a small to mid-sized academic or non-academic department or organizational unit with limited scope.

May report to a chair, director, or a higher level administrative operations professional or manager. Perform short- and long-term planning for the organization.

May supervise staff or students. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education / training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience / training.
  • Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management.
  • Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
  • Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
  • Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing short and long range plans and strategies by applying trends, growth and anticipated goals of the center.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
  • Demonstrated administrative success with proven ability to analyze, interpret and apply management principles and practices.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office tools. Experience with both MAC and PC a plus.
  • Advanced skill to apply knowledge of management principles, practices and techniques to administer a multi-functional center.
  • Demonstrated experience in Project Management.
  • Demonstrated experience performing complex analyses involving programmatic and fiscal considerations, formation of action plans, and independently making decisions in all aspects.
  • Strong leadership skills in personnel management including experience in providing direction, knowledge of sound management practices, team building techniques, providing recommendations in hiring and performance appraisals;

providing guidance and instructions and communicating in an effective, professional and direct manner, and provide disciplinary action as needed.

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable UCSD policies and procedures governing academic and staff personnel, accounting, contracts and grants, purchasing, equipment and space inventory.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work varying hours - evenings and weekends when necessary.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $77,000 - $139,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $36.88 - $66.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
