THE POSITION
Brooklyn Friends School seeks a Part-time Library Assistant (16-18 hours per week) to support our library program, primarily within the Lower School classroom setting, but also occasionally in the Middle School and Upper School libraries.
Responsibilities include :
- Provide assistance during library classes (e.g., check in library books and assist students with library check out)
- Process and catalog new materials and prepare them for shelving
- Shelve library materials
- Assist with library events (e.g., author visits, book fair)
- Assist with maintaining physical appearance of library (including bulletin boards and library displays)
This position reports to the Director of Library Program.
Qualifications and Characteristics Sought :
- Enjoys working with young children
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Is prompt and organized
- Approaches work with flexibility, patience, and a willingness to learn
- Demonstrates cultural competency and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Ability to lift, stand, and perform light physical tasks in a busy school library
- Preferred : Familiarity with Children’s Literature
- Preferred but not required : enrolled in an accredited Library / Information Science program
Physical Requirements of the Job
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand, bend over, twist and reach to access file cabinets, bookshelves and navigate office and workstation spaces.
Union Status : Union
Salary Range : $24.70 per hour - $28.29 per hour
This hourly range represents the expected hourly rate of pay for this position. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your education level, experience, and other job-related factors.
