Project Manager, Fiber Operations

Organization : Mercury Broadband is a leading provider of high-speed Internet and digital phone service. The Company was founded in Topeka, KS, after recognizing a need for Broadband Internet access in rural America.

Today Mercury Broadband's rapidly expanding network is headquartered in Kansas City and provides Internet access to communities throughout five states across the Midwest.

Position Summary : The Project Manager (PM), Fiber Operations position at Mercury Broadband assists in the planning, implementing, and executing of FTTx OSP construction projects.

This role will initially report to the Chief Operating Officer and will focus on accelerating productivity with the Companys fiber operations by working with FTTx OSP design, construction, and local jurisdiction and permitting teams to meet project timelines.

The PM role is to act as the single point of contact for all FTTx OSP construction project requirements and deliverables in all markets.

The PM's role involves working with low level engineering designs, construction drawings, notes, and various other build requirements.

In addition, PMs ensure the accuracy of materials, labor, and overall costs to ensure Mercury Broadband's Gross Margins and Direct Project Costs (DPCs) are met.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Support FTTx OSP design teams by coordinating on low level fiber optic construction plans and permitting requirements
  • Review fiber design BOMs and validate preliminary cost estimates
  • Develop project plans to meet construction timelines and support subscriber connectivity needs
  • Initialize materials procurement for projects and coordinate material delivery schedules to support the needs of each market
  • Utilize the Companys construction planning and implementation software to lead teams consisting of internal and external resources including Construction Managers and / or Supervisors, Engineers, and others
  • Communicate with local governing authorities to coordinate permitting, identify plant conflicts, and attend utility coordination meetings as required
  • Prepare reports on construction project progress and prepare velocity projections to estimate project completion
  • Work closely with Senior Leadership and other members of the Mercury team to schedule, update, and identify roadblocks and find efficiencies in the operations of our fiber deployment programs
  • Attend project or interdepartmental meetings as required
  • Travel to other markets as needed; air travel will be required

Experience Requirements :

  • 4+ years telecom fiber construction experience, preferably FTTH
  • High level understanding of equipment, methodology, processes, and terminology as it relates to telecom construction requirements.
  • 2+ years hands-on experience with managing large application projects
  • Experience working with local governing authorities to support permitting needs
  • Experience with fiber construction safety requirements
