Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager

About the Role :

Responsibilities involve developing and implementing a robust Food Safety and Quality system, overseeing the maintenance and review of FSQ Systems, and analyzing data to ensure product safety and quality.

Additionally, the role includes establishing training procedures for quality evaluations, meeting customer expectations, making timely decisions on substandard products, conducting root cause analysis for process improvements, analyzing statistical data for product quality enhancement, and implementing company label initiatives.

Responsibilities :

Work with Director of Food Safety and QA to provide leadership from Corporate QA where input is needed.

Liaison with Director of R&D on the finalization of ingredient statement for any new product development or reformulation from regulatory perspective.

Perform root cause analysis and other problem-solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.

Provide support and leadership to COSI Sales Team requests for QA-related information required to bid submission, private label opportunities, as well as other new and existing business development activities.

Work closely with Director of Food Safety and QA to support food safety, regulatory compliance and quality assurance problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement.

Ensure company label initiatives are appropriately implemented including laboratory analysis, product evaluations, database maintenance and label review.

Partner with Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Nutrition, who manages the TMP process with the FDA as well as the Consumer Affairs staff, to track and recommend action on consumer claims as necessary.

Manage daily Corporate QA laboratory activities including but not limited to, product cuttings, demos, product inventory, shelf life and issue appropriate reports.

Develop appropriate training sections, manage employee PMP, timecards, and professional goals.

Education :

A 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, or closely related discipline, from an accredited program is required.

A Master of Science degree in Food Science, or closely related discipline, is highly desirable. Other valuable educational qualifications are :

Seafood HACCP Training

Seafood Sensory Training

Canned Salmon School, sensory examination

Labeling of FDA Regulated Food Products (AIB International)

Thermal Processing Course (Technical)

Experience :

5+ years of experience in shelf stable and ready-to-eat seafood manufacturing industries in a quality or food safety focused role.

Excellent working knowledge of seafood products regulation, including HACCP, GMPs, sanitation, standards of identity, and intentional adulteration of foods.

Experience in sensory evaluation of foods.

Double seam experience, food packaging and container integrity evaluation experience.

Excellent communication, analytical, presentation and writing skills.

Physical Demands

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, communicate, usually through talking, hearing, writing and typing.

Employees should be able to operate standard office equipment, i.e., telephones, computers, facsimile and copier. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk, and move or lift to 35 lbs.

The employee regularly works in a well-lighted, heated and / or air-conditioned indoor office setting with a moderate degree of noise.

The employee is required to comply with all company policies, rules, and directives, including safe work practices.
