The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) serves as the coordinating office for externally funded research and sponsored projects at The University of Texas at Austin.
The mission of OSP is to assist faculty and professional research staff in their efforts to secure and ensure proper stewardship of external funding.
We do that by assisting research faculty and staff with the following : proposal review, authorization, and submission; award negotiations and acceptance;
account management; close-out, reports, audits, collection; professional development and education; export control, and research compliance.

Purpose
To support the research community at the University of Texas at Austin in capacity of Assistant Director for Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP).
Manage the Grants Financial Management (GFM) team within OSP and provide support to the Associate Director for GFM.
Responsibilities
SUPERVISION OF CENTRAL SUPPORT TEAM IN GFM
Supervises seven (7) staff members who are responsible for functions such as institutional reporting, effort reporting, funds management, subrecipient monitoring and audits.
Provides direction and oversight to the support team in these areas.
REGULATORY REPORTING
Prepares and submits reports to regulatory agencies such as the NSF HERD Survey, THECB annual report, Year End AFR Reconciliation, Pass Thru Reconciliation, and Sponsors Financial Reporting Requests.
PROCESS DEVELOPMENT / STRATEGIC PLANNING
Assists Associate Director with Strategic Planning for the portfolio. Creates Data Analytics and Exception reporting tools for Post Award and GFM staff and management team.
Monitors processes and procedures to ensure efficiency.
DATA COORDINATION
Provides data related to expenditures to the ERA Sr. Manager upon request. Assists the ERA team with reports / graphs as requested.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field.
Five or more years of professional experience in research administration or a related area with three or more years in a grant management level position.
Strong demonstrated supervisory and communication skills.
Experience using financial systems or fund accounting systems.
Ability to identify and implement process improvements, think critically and make decisions, ability to problem solve through strategic planning.
Ability to interpret and ensure compliance with federal, state and University policy.
Must be eligible to work in the United States for an employer on a full-time basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree.
More than the required years of experience, CRA certification, experience with a software system transition.
Supervisory level experience in a sponsored projects office at a university.
Experience working with internal and external auditors and knowledge of preparing audit responses.
Experience with DEFINE and Workday HRMS / Payroll & Financial.
Salary Range
$102,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility :
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
